Topic: Which A to Z combo do you order? Posted: April 27 2011 at 13:28
These are my choices, and of course I could have gone for many others. I only went with ones from my collection that I knew were in PA and that I really like. I omitted many that I really like that are also applicable, for instance, I first thought of using Eider Stellaire for E, but opted for Eskaton and Egg. I initially planned to have Henry Cow team up with Hancock for H. but decided to change it (Heldon is a fave of mine that I think deserves more attention).... I also wanted Hellebore. So many choices, and different ones that crossed my mind, and no doubt I could have done better if I'd really thought about it. At least i could have made more cohesive teams and more duos that more would be able to easily vote for because they know both options reasonably well.
I had to put y and z in the same poll option due to poll limitations.
I decided to stick with ones that I knew were in PA (don't want to rissk the poll being moved as has happened to me before) even if I would have dearly loved to put ones not in PA that I think top tier and a prog archives appropriate.

It's probably me after a long day in the sun playing golf and then canvassing for the Welsh elections, but I really have no idea what I'm being asked to vote on here

I'm between A, C, P, and U at the moment...if Cardiacs were in C with Can instead of Comus then C would have gotten it easily. I'm thinking I'll vote for A, that's a great combo.

I wanted people to vote for the poll option, taking into account both
acts, that they think they like the most. I'll edit the poll question
to make it clearer. This is a bit vague as ithe question stands "Which of these duos do you choose?" Choose in terms of what, I'd wonder?

Cardiacs are great andd would have been a good one for me to choose (I really like the Carediacs), and I wonder if I should have tried as much as possible to not include acts with very limited discographies.

That was the biggest problem with me for Comus - First Utterance is brilliant, To Keep from Crying not so much...whereas with Area and Art Zoyd, I've enjoyed every album I've heard by both groups so far.

V is good FOR ME, though I kind of wish I'd put down Jean-Claude Vannier
(I was using my mp3 player list, and JCV is listed under J). I think Vortex's second is a great album, and I'm surprised you don't like Volapuk. Why do you think the group poor?

V could have made my list of pairs to choose from if I knew the bands well...I've only heard samples of each so far. That happened with almost all of the groups, not knowing one or the other very well.

I'm not familiar Vortex, but Volapuk is indeed pulling the group below neutral. They're a good example of shardy complex Avant-Prog I can't stand at all. They're all rhythms and dissonances and high-pitched accents, but nothing ties up whatsoever.

I love the bonus tracks on Song to Comus. I usually compare most loved albums or album when picking something and ignore the ones I don't care so much about.. If equal, then I consider numbers of albums I really like (but not percentage of material I like, really).

I hear the music differently. To my ears it's well-structured and highly enjoyable. It's one of my very favourite modern bands (along with more melodic ones that you like such as Aranis).

Decided to go with what stood out the most when i first looked at the pairings and that's Magma and Moving Geletine Plates. In my opinon Moving Geletine Plate's debut is a masterpiece and the followup isn't far off either plus i like the reunion album.Magma of course is a band i greatly appreciate so it's a good match.
Heldon and Herbie Hancock may make completely different music from each other but i'm a big fan of both. There are so many excellent pairings on this list though.
