LOL I can't help but notice there are no "prog" related questions or choices in this poll Tongue
Unless you take Prog to mean "progressive" as in "progress" and this is a "progression" from the 3.4 million "prog polls" Gandalff posts. So maybe it is a "prog" poll LOL

No. Is there something wrong with Ehart's drumming that I don't know about?

My opinion wouldn't change; I don't have a problem with Kansas' drumming, but rather their compositions.

Since it didn't work out for Genesis, I'm not sure Kansas would have benefitted from his contributions either.  I read that Bruford loves to improvise onstage, so keeping to the straight and narrow in a composition wouldn't suit him.  That is why he stuck with King Crimson.

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Phil Ehart's drummer. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated drummers in music.

No. I don't think Bruford's style fits at all with Kansas.

Dunno, I wouldn't expect so, but I do think I'd like Kansas more if Christian Vander had replaced Eh..., erm, that drummer from Kansas. Dust in the Wind in Kobaian would be awesome.

No, because I don't pay too much attention to the drumming. And I think that Lark the Starless is right.

I focus most on drumming, then on bass and then I trick my brain to follow both keybord and guitar, and then I splitt my brain in 4 branches one for drum one for bass one for guitar and one for keybord, then i bind them together in one coheseve sound, I then listen to all sounds in four different layers I have even trained a skill to close of one instrument to focus on others, then I also can get a full pictrue of all the instruments silmuntainiously

Maybe.  I think Ehart is to Kansas what Squire is to Yes.  But considering Bill went from Yes to King Crimson, did a live stint with Genesis, and then his own band,  I'm sure he'd be up to the task. So no vote from me since you didn't make maybe an option. Tongue

I promise I wasn't drunk when I made this poll.  Tongue

I was listening to Yes and King Crimson after Kansas and I came to the conclusion that Phil Ehart's drumming is the "opposite," as it were, of Bill Bruford's.

Whereas Bruford is kind of loose with his snare, his rhythms, and even his sound (not a criticism at all), Ehart is far tighter.  While Ehart is the rhythmic backbone of Kansas, Bruford seems to play around the other musicians in whatever band he is in.

I don't know if that makes any sense- it was just an observation I've been having over the past several days.

I often think of John Weathers as the opesitte of Bill Bruford but Ehart is also a good contender

yes i often thought Phil Ehart are binding the Kansas sound together much like a piece of glue,

just listen to the incanly fast rock groove on the GG song Way of Life, sound like standard rock drum groove, only its much faster and very pre-on beat

sounds like a AC/DC drum groove only much tighter and faster

Νο! For me the drummers don't change the style of a band. Mostly I mean musically.
Mikael Akerfeldt for fans of Opeth who don't like his growls (and generally the growls): If they don't like it then they are pussies.

Extreme prog metal rules!!!
