Topic: Spock's Beard - Beware of Darkness,Question Posted: May 12 2011 at 20:38 |
My version of Spock's Beard, Beware of Darkness, Track 2 Thoughts, has a blemish that sounds like a skip at 5:46 into the song. Is that part of the mastering? I have the iTunes version and wonder if anyone can hear that on the CD version. Thanks!

Between 5:40 and 5:46 are some klicking sounds, probably made by the drum sticks, if one would listen very unconcentrated or on very bad speakers one could mistake them for some "cd skipping sounds"....

It is on the CD too. The vocal goes in reverse for a second then goes normal again. Don't know if its an error or on purpose though. Sounds odd.

That is exactly what I mean. I am referring to the odd sounding vocal effect. Thanks for the confirmation. Are there different masters of this album? I have the iTunes Special edition version.

That Spock's Beard track is very Gentle Giant-ish, they use those effects on their album, Interview (on tracks Interview and Design)

In the lyric sheet of my version (Special edition), and probably in the original one as well, those lyrics are also written backwards (the part: "Thoughts forever keep me going down"). So it is definitely on purpose. To me it fits quite well with the song, being the lyrics are about "hearing your own thoughts in your head" like you're an outsider to them. Nick also used two coffee cups in the middle of the song (3:54) when they couldn't find woodblocks in the studio which to me is also both weird an brilliant. So, it's all about prog madness A wonderful track.

Geez, now I'm going to have to pull out my copy of Beware and check this out for myself. How could I have not noticed that before?

I'm fairly certain that it's intentional; confused me a bit the first time I heard it, though.

Here's a question from an obsessive - will this have a vinyl release ?? I usually wait for updates from Syn-Phonic, however, Greg there doesn't get in every new release that's out. I hate shopping elsewhere......InsideOut are usually strong on the vinyl front.
