I voted King crimson's version.

Mikael Akerfeldt for fans of Opeth who don't like his growls (and generally the growls): If they don't like it then they are pussies.

I don't care for the double tracking on the female singer's voice in the GG&F version; therefore, I prefer the KC version.

Other. I prefer Steve Hackett's live version. McDonald's flute solos sound better to me. Recorded in Japan last century. I guess he'll be opening for puppet shows next. Edited by hobocamp - May 15 2011 at 10:19 |

That's difficult, I've only heard the Giles, Giles and Fripp version once, and I rather liked it, and found the vocals really good too, I think it was a bit less boring. As far as I remember, it also had flute, was it McDonald too? And the Tokyo Tapes version is pretty good too. As a personal rule, I liked Lake better than Wetton, but the few songs I've heard Wetton sing that were originally by Lake, he's done a very good job, and right now, I think I'd rather hear Wetton live singing those Lake's originals than Lake himself. Still, I really doubt Wetton could ever have been able to beat the original vocal performance on Epitaph.

FYI= There is also a version by British 90s synth pop band Opus 3 that is quite remarkable. Its on the Mindfruit album I believe.
