Topic: Steve Wilson remix of 'Aqualung' out in September Posted: May 20 2011 at 17:15 |
Steven Wilson on his Facebook page wrote:
Since Ian Anderson has been talking about this, I guess it's now official. I recently completed a brand new mix of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" for a 40th anniversary edition. As always the remix is super faithful to the original, but with much improved sonic clarity (something that just can't be achieved with remastering). Also remixed for inclusion were many other studio tracks from the 1970-71 period (several previously unreleased), and a 5.1 mix. It should be out on EMI in September.

Swilson's been getting a lot of work lately. I wonder how many other remasters he's going to be involved in (I hope he stays the hell away from the Vapor Trails remaster).

Steve Wilson will not rest until he has remixed every album released between 1968 and 1975.

Good news. There were issues with the original recording as readily admitted by Ian Anderson.I think I will get this when it comes out.

I'm generally indifferent to his remixes (as evidenced in the KC remasters) and prefer the bonus material that happens to be on the bells-and-whistles reissues. However, I'm pretty certain he'll do a good job here. Why? Because anything is better than the many awful CD renditions of "Aqualung" that are floating out there.

^ Yeah. I'm actually considering buying this one. The CD I have is rather poorly produced indeed, easily the worst sounding Tull album.

I'm not usually one for buying remixes. I think a lot of them are merely excuses for the record companies or bands to fleece even more money out of us. however, I will probably get this one, as it is one album that I think would benefit from the treatment.

Yup. My "Aqualung" remaster sounds as bad as the "TTAB" remaster sounds good.

I really enjoyed the remaster of War Child (much more so than the first time around on CD), and so I'm looking forward to the Aqualung remix. I'm also interested in the unreleased songs, if such a thing can be from Tull, as far too many of the same songs reappear on new remasters and compilations

I love "Aqualung" and actually prefer my vinyl copy to the CD version, the latter being a badly produced effort in my opinion. I am hoping the remix will be fuller in sound and well produced. I will buy it when it comes out especially for the bonus material.

I have sworn to stop buying Aqualungs after my 3rd copy. And I don't even like the album that much (except for the long tracks )
