Topic: Spock's Beard vs. Echolyn Posted: September 04 2012 at 15:31 |
These voting results are exactly how I pictured my own decision: it's a tie.
Personally I have a longer history with SB than Echolyn, but when I did discover Echolyn they grabbed my attention faster, and they're the only band I ever listen to now anyway. Echolyn gets my vote for this.

I don't particularly like either band, but I've actually enjoyed one or two songs by Echolyn, so they get my vote.

I disagree with both bands having crappy vocals as I like the vocals in both bands:) There are certainly far worse singers in the prog world.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

I picked SPOCK'S BEARD but it's close. Neil Morse's BEARD to be presice.

The Beard for me. I appreciate Echolyn, but have not been able to get into them like other bands.

Echolyn, easily. I like SB, but Echolyn is one of my very favorites. Such diversity--they never let themselves settle in and do the same thing over again. SB on the other hand . . . well . . .
By the way, Echolyn recently shared with their Yahoo group that they likely have enough music for a double album this time and hope to have it done by the end of the year. They report that there is a lot more jazz on this one . . . as always, I look forward to it immensely!

Spock's Beard had a magnum opus with Snow but Echolyn has more than one brilliant album, namely Mei and Cowboy Poems Free.

Though I completely disagree, I cannot argue with that.

What an odd thing to say. Especially from an apparent Gentle Giant fan.

I actually don't mind crappy vocals, but there are some things that just rub me the wrong way. Neal Morse may be alright technically, but his voice is so incredibly cheesy it makes me want to vomit sometimes. Echolyn just sounds kind of obnoxious to me.
