In my opinion, both leading bands of new prog Americana wave, broadening horizons of giant classic bands, both bands full of excellent and tight musicianship, and yet neither of them has an album at top 100...

Personally I used to like SB more (primarily the Morse era I've in my mind), but with years I have gotten into Echolyn as well, and found to love and admire them more, such a complex, intricate and yet emotional music.

Echolyn - not been a huge fan of any of the SB stuff I've heard.

Were it not for Kansas and Yes, Echolyn would be my favorite band.

can't really like them both, but I have to go with Spock's Beard with a slimmest margin.

Both good bands with awful vocals. I'll go with the beard though

I'm a big fan of all things Morse so I have to go with the Beard, I like Echolyn a lot though too.

What an odd thing to say.  Especially from an apparent Gentle Giant fan.

I actually don't mind crappy vocals, but there are some things that just rub me the wrong way. Neal Morse may be alright technically, but his voice is so incredibly cheesy it makes me want to vomit sometimes. Echolyn just sounds kind of obnoxious to me.

Though I completely disagree, I cannot argue with that.

Spock's Beard had a magnum opus with Snow but Echolyn has more than one brilliant album, namely Mei and Cowboy Poems Free.

Echolyn, easily.  I like SB, but Echolyn is one of my very favorites.  Such diversity--they never let themselves settle in and do the same thing over again.  SB on the other hand . . . well . . .

By the way, Echolyn recently shared with their Yahoo group that they likely have enough music for a double album this time and hope to have it done by the end of the year.  They report that there is a lot more jazz on this one . . . as always, I look forward to it immensely!

The Beard for me. I appreciate Echolyn, but have not been able to get into them like other bands.

Spock's Beard
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
