Cardiacs are one of the most progressive and interesting bands of all time, and therefore it wouldn't be a surprise if Cardiacs had a few side projects that were worthy of participating in the archives, well they do!

Spratley's Japs- Project recorded by Cardiacs frontman Tim Smith with singer Joanna Spratley,  Heidi Murphy,Mark Donovan, and Viv Sherriff. The band's sound isn't far off than Cardiacs' sound, but it is rather more psychedelic and less punky. They recorded just one album, it too rather great by the name of "Pony". I say RIO/ Avant-prog, but psychedelic/ space rock also makes sense.

Very interesting bands/projects, these two. I don't really know what to think of them, so I'll ask the ZART to share their thoughts.

I suppose Avant-Prog is the obvious choice, given that that's where Cardiacs were dumped, but I personally think Psychedelic might want to give them a try, or Crossover even, given that at its core Spratley's Japs is basically just wonky pop music.

^ it is all tunes in the end isn't it (:? I just bought (finally) the tribute album, and I think it shows more than anything that Cardiacs are a pop group, but Tim's brain is so genius that all the details he adds make it sound like progressive,  when in the end it really is just a tune. I don't really see Cardiacs as Avant-prog, but in the end out of all sub-genres on this site it is most fitting. Avant by definition is stuff ahead of its time, and Cardiacs were so ahead of their time the Apocalypse will come faster than their time.

I remembered this thread all of a sudden. I assume they were rejected? Shame :( . One of the best albums of all time they did.

I haven't found them on Progfreak. Are you sure that the suggestion is ever arrived to the ZART? I agree with your avatar...

^ I really don't know. Maybe not. I really think these guys should be on the site, even more than the other Cardiacs side project "Sea Nymphs", who are already here.

And my avatar reins supreme  :)

It means that you can check up on the evaluation's progress by following the link to the chart at progfreak where all the team voting is recorded. However, this band WAS added to progfreak not long after you suggested them - but without the apostrophe, which is why Luca couldn't find them there.
Three of the RIO/Avant team voted 'move', but why Luca himself never got to know about the suggestion and have a vote himself is something that is not exactly clear at the moment. Confused

Edit: This is Luca's latest entry in progfreak: http://progfreak.com/Spratley-Japs-152884.html?path=pa/recent (again without an apostrophe - but the band's name doesn't actually have an apostrophe, so this would have been correct if he had included the 's' at the end of Spratleys. Keishiro's original entry on progfreak was the correct way to spell the band's name, and being as there has already been a vote taken, I think the next step is to find out which team they recommended moving the band to last time (I'm guessing it would have to be Psyche), rather than going through the process all over again).

I agree. Cardiacs just write pop music. In reality Weezer did the same thing, they just simplified it to such a degree that normal people would like it.

Now we wait. It is in the chart, so it won't go missing anymore. Once they (the team) will get to it, it will be done. Meaning - you can bump from time to time, but ultimately, they are the ones who will do the voting, so on their shoulders lies the work. And results.
There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

The Zart voted MOVE, but I'm afraid that no other teams have taken them yet.
