My three favourite albums at the moment, all pretty challenging listens for someone not into this kind of thing... Progressive metal at its finest, most of it pretty manic too.

I think Animals as Leaders just take it away... I think they may win this one but who knows

I don't care for DEP at all and Sikth are pretty cool, but doesn't compare for me.

Can't stand "tech" or "mathcore" so none of these releases do anything for me. With that said, Dillinger's actual song songs are brilliant. It's just too bad that the majority of their records are comprised of a bunch of w@nk.

DEP for sure -  I never quite 'got' Animals As Leaders or Sikth.

Agreed. That album still blows my mind even though I've listened to it over 20 times.

I think its more than just the two vocalists, though I cant exactly put my finger on it. I agree about the two albums being about equal, The Trees gets a lot more experimental in its second half but Death is probably more consistent and so wins out for that alone. Has the band definitely split up now? Last I saw the two vocalists left at the same time and the rest went on a break before deciding what to do.

I must admit, the only Dillinger I've really heard is Option Paralysis, which has all the elements I love from that type of music, but succedes in being very dull with it. I reckon Rolo Tomassi's Cosmology does the same kind of thing but far better, with added keyboards.

AAL comes across as guitar tech music. Very impressive anda good listen, but leaves me very cold and looking for song development and a bit of variation between tracks, something I find much more of in Canvas Solaris, particularly on The Atomized Dream.

They are officially broken up. They're just about all active in doing other projects. Dan Weller, former guitarist, now writes children's music for some BBC kids program.
