I don't know the entire album, so I won't vote, but what about Harmonium's L'Heptade?

IMHO the last interesting album by Chicago, that had some original tunes, while the one-off with the fusion of the Beach Boys and Chicago was inspired. After 7 mostly rapidly down hill to AOR and making sure of the pension funds are topped up - although I'll take the variants on Street Player (tune not album)

In The Woods... Three Times Seven On A Pilgrimage
Also, Tony Banks - Seven, Punishment of Luxury - 7, Peter Hammill - Ph7, Maddy Prior - Seven For Old England.
You could also have Rick Wakeman, Jon Anderson, Frupp, Pip Pyle, Jack Bruce & Robin Trower, Phideau, Egg, IQ...

Return to Forever is easily my favorite group on this list, but I do not have that particular album. So, I voted other: Iron MIaiden, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (I can't believe I am actually saying this). If you like Helloween, you have to check that one out.

Some i have mentioned are well known, and some definitely off the beaten track, and some i am sure i have missed (that is what Other is for)
My personal fave is the first solo album by German guitarist Dirk Steffens from 1976 called The Seventh Step, one of my all time favorite albums by anybody. |
