I always loved the Oblivion Express albums.  Auger was not much of a composer -- though Second Wind is a fine song -- but man could he cover tunes:  Freedom Jazz Dance, Inner City Blues, Bumpin' on Sunset.  Fine stuff.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Definitely a great musician, though a pianist playing organ rather than a pure organist like Emerson or Ritchie.

Try Magic Mirror by Aphrodite's child from 69, Vangelis sounds a bit like Brian on the Hammond Wink

I have a little story to tell about Brian Auger. I went to a concert of Eric Burdon with Jean. I don't know who the other musicians were (I had never heard their names before and have forgotten them), but the keyboarder was Brian Auger. During one song the guitar player broke a string, and while he put in another Auger improvised a solo to help him out. That was absolutely ad hoc and impressed both Jean and me very much; you really have to have a high level of musicality to pull that off.

I've been looking for his stuff for years after hearing Emerson name checking him, but have only recently heard any of it and have been very impressed. Welcome to the rapidly expanding Don Shinn fan club Jean-MarieWink, which now has three members - me, Iain (Exitthelemming) and now you! This guy should really be listed on PA under proto prog. The campaign starts here!
