The picture of Portnoy in this article is a picture my wife took at the Testimony 2 show in Seattle.........Bravewords probably took it off Portnoy's Facebook page, which he now uses as his profile pic. I also included the pic in my Neal Morse review here on PA. That pic is getting around....cool!

Also looking forward to the new album. I still can't get passed the album title though....LaBrie says they wanna go on, but that title keeps reminding people of the "event".

Also, i wanna see the album art.
Hopefully it wont make the title's meaning obvious.

^ Actually yes......you mean to say "did I read in between the lines".....My feeling is he does not want to let the "event" die, as he says he wants to, or the band does. Its as if this Mangini thing does not work out, he is leaving his foot in Portnoy door.

Jump to 2013 ...."Ok Mike, this Mangini thing was just a test/project of ours......lets get back to real Dream Theater work......."

God that text was painful to read, I looked away and just saw lines! Ow. Anyway, All of my doubts about the album were proven wrong, unless he's just advertising... Looking forward to it.

I'd like to hear a bit more about what the album sounds like. But from the little that was here, it sounds good.

The "Interviews" section is for official Progarchives interviews only.

Pretty much every artist that does interviews is doing it to promote their new stuff.

"Oh yeah, that last album was trash, but this new one, it's more like those albums you like". That's probably the biggest lie that every musician has ever told.

Quite true. There is this video of Dream Theater where they are promoting Falling into Infinity and its pretty much like this: "this is out best album so far; we have grown so much in the last year so this is our most mature album, etc".

The whole process not including Portnoy will obviously mean more freedom and contribution from everyone. Which is exciting that we'll probably hear something different, and a welcome change for long time fans. I like that James cites Images and Scenes as comparisons. The two best right? New song, today at 11:00!!!

That interview confirmed a lot of the things that had me thinking that Portnoy being gone can be a good thing for Dream Theater... Portnoy always seemed to be the one pushing DT towards more of a straight-forward metal sound, whether it was adding in his little "death" vocals or just throwing ballsy, heavy songs out.
I'm really excited to see if the rest of the band working without Portnoy can release a great album with more of a proggy, jazzier feel than they've had in the last decade or so. This first song definitely has some of those elements, so it could be a sign of a solid album coming up! The first single off of each of their last two albums has been one of the worst song on each respective album. If "On The Backs of Angels" is the worst song off of the upcoming release, it's going to be a pretty good album!
