I'm a big fan of Kubrick, and have voted for 'Paths Of Glory' in this poll... any of you here who haven't seen it really should... it will make you think for a long time afterwards about the futility of war.

It's interesting that Kubrick directed 3 anti-war films, and I describe them as Paths of Glory was aimed at the heart, Strangelove was aimed at the head and Full Metal Jacket was aimed at the gut.  They bring out 3 different (but equally strong) emotions in the viewer.

Those of you who love Kubrick, and have never seen The Killer's Kiss (1955), should do so.  Its not a classic, and stretches to just over an hour, but its a highly original Film Noir with many Kubrick touches which you can see develop in later films.... enjoy.

PS 'The Killing' is also absolutely superb...one of the most tightly directed heist movies of the 50's... don't miss out!

i believe that kubrick was the greatest director of all times and movies like clockwork orange and 2001: space odyssey are in my top 5.....don't forget that he was the director who influenced david lynch more than everyone else......i love david lynch too

Extremely tough call there - in the end I went for Full Metal Jacket. Although the film is a bit uneven overall, the first act (basic training at Parris Island) remains the most stunning thing I have ever seen in the cinema.

I have to agree with Memowakeman about Barry Lyndon, massively under rated.

A Clockwork Orange,followed closely by Full Metal Jacket.I am a huge sci-fi and fantasy fan and I think 2001 is visually stunning but quite possibly the most boring sc-fi film ever made.HUGELY overrated.

Luis Bunuel was a genius...although it does help to be French to appreciate all his Political & Social Nuances..still, Belle De Jour and The Discreet Carm of the Petite Bourgoisie are superb...

Actually I've only seen 2 of Bunuel's film, Andalou and Land Without Bread. My fav French director is Traffaut. Shoot The Piano Player is terrific.
