I just found out about these guys while browsing in Mike Patton's Ipecac Recording's website, they are incredibly talented and virtuoso norwegian musicians (the band was formed in the Conservatory of Trondheim, where the original members were students).

Their music (according to the Ipecac website) is a "mixture of Bulgarian folk music, jazz standards, popular music and humor. Farmers Market has become one of Norway's most popular live bands, playing at all kinds of venues and festivals: jazz, folk and rock."

I have downloaded the album ("Surfin' USSR", released in 2008) on iTunes and it's been blowing up my mind recently. It's an incredibly challenging and effective mix of the aforementioned styles (and who knows how many other things) with the added of insanity a-la-Samla Mammas Manna and Zappaesque title songs. Highly recommended!

A couple of songs:
Red Square Dance

Surfin' USSR

Here's the same song (part 1 and part 2), but performed with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) on some TV footage:

Some Fag Rag, performed on the same TV show

And 'Tails Of The Unexpected' - A medley of everything

Excellent band. Been suggested a couple of times before, I think, without any clear outcome.

Here's the latest thread: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=78325&KW=farmers+market

Farmers Market is an excellent eclectic band that more people should hear, I'm shocked that they're still not on PA. Shocked

So, according to that thread, they weren't approved by an ZAR-Team member. So, how about Eclectic Prog?

The best place for this band is jazz-rock.

^Sorry dude, but it's hard for me to take your opinion seriously with that avatar. Wacko

PS
Besides, we all know that the Dune soundtrack was the only good thing Toto did throughout their entire career.

Ok, two collaborators show up, both of them like this stuff but it doesn't belong to any of his prog-departments
So, how can we get in contact with a J-R/F team member?

The band is under evaluation by the ZART (Zeuhl/Avant/RIO Team), and if you look at the team chart you'll see that no team member voted yet. Maybe a better idea would be to write the team members and offer help / put pressure? Wink Current active members are SaltyJon, DamoXt7942 and listennow801.

Oh, I'm currently a silent member indeed. Tongue
Now under checkin' ... good texture, and I've felt they be fitter for Jazz Rock / Fusion. Cool

Do you know TOTO ?
I have two farmers' market albums, so I know what I am talking about.

And who are you to despise a band with such superb artists as David Paich, Simon Phillips, Jeff Porcaro or Steve Lukather.

Your post is the dumbest one I have ever seen on the PA forum.

"Red Square Dance" and "Surfin USSR" tracks are Serbian / Bulgarian folk,  not a rock music at all. But, if team(s) are saying: *yes* - this music  is Prog LOL   I'll be very happy Big smile Hey, I'd suggest the Prog band named Splet Kola ~     ( live audio)

15 minutes epic Vragolanka etc.  Big smile        ~

There are better examples of their rock leanings, but few of those are available on Youtube, unfortunately.

They were rejected for avant-prog, let's see what happens with Fusion.

It's truly a pity that Farmers Market is not a metal band!
