Sweet! I searched for them pretty recently and thought they should be here. I just accidentally came across the new page now. I don't have any of their albums so I'd like to see where it seems that I should start.

Haven't listened to them for years. I saw them a couple of times around 79/80 ish. I'll have to dig out some of their old albums to treat the wife to an evening of listening pleasure.

They're not Prog but there's far, far less deserving additions.

Throbbing Gristle should appeal to Tool fans.

I'm shocked that TG are here....although I guess a website like this shouldn't necessarily remain static.

I'm a big TG fan....someone early in the thread said Second Annual Report was their favorite.....an interesting choice and a very good album - but IMO, the obvious choice IS the best album (and I believe that obvious choice to be 20 Jazz Funk Greats).

I got to see them a couple of years back when they played the Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Brooklyn, NY....they played along with a showing of 'In the Shadow of the Sun' (original music - probably a lot improvised....not the same as on the soundtrack that was released)....then they did a signing (got my copy of 20JFG signed by all 4 of them)....and then they played another set - a regular set.

For those interested in the history of the band, there's a very detailed tome called 'Wreckers of Civilization' by Simon Ford which goes back to the pre-TG days of Coum Transmission.  There's also one of those 33 1/3 books about 20JFG....that's really good for people who are intrigued or interested but don't really "like" TG....but are curious to know why some people do.

If you find yourself questioning the music of TG.....if you find yourself uncomfortable.....then - in fact - you DO "get it".

The most God awful thing for you to sit through is "Subhuman" from their Greatest Hits cd. Probably clocking in a little over 4 minutes.  Oh, they were very sick.  Most people I knew did not take them seriously, but yet those exact people would find someone who would and make attempts to scare them by playing "Journey Through A Body" or "Hamburger Lady". They were most disturbing indeed. Cosy Fanni Tutti was a blast. I thought they were funny. They were a bit too personal with their subject matters. I think if a person was depressed and exposed to Throbbing Gristle's Industrial music their depression would increase to the extreme. Also if you are a paranoid person by nature .....you shouldn't be listening to T.G.

T.G. were suppose to be a bit of a joke anyway. Especially back in the late 70's. They are not really that much different from  "The GTO'S, Wild Man Fischer, or the Residents. I suppose it may have been the punk thing which seperated their appearance from those bands, however they are just as strange. Throbbing Gristle's recordings were like film. "After Cease to Exist" was like that. They were all about noise and not music, however they had these creepy tapes brought in by Peter C. and it played like a film. The noise surrounded the tapes. I used to get a kick out of their studio albums. I wasn't fond of their live recordings ....for example "Funeral in Berlin".  After Cease was live but felt studio. Here is a compilation I made:

I do think it kind of ironic that Genesis P Orridge is on PA now. 
 
No real thoughts one way or the other as I don't really understand the different catagories of prog anyway (Or care).

But Marissa Martinez, singer/guitarist of Cretin, was an average guy who turned into a beautiful woman.
