basically utterly unrelated but I just experienced going from the high of listening back through my Gong favourites last week to having gone through some vinyl lately to look for any ommissions and I came across a Saga LP that I thought I'd better check to see if I even really knew what it sounded like as I must have picked it up cheap to find out exactly that and I couldn't quite believe how awful it was

anyway, the two have no link or comparison it was just a feeling....an expression.....so don't you can't compare the two I was just saying what was on my mind, which to be honest would probably have been better left in there....

I just wanted to talk to somebody, someone? is anybody out there?! LOL

It may have been that I was listening to Oresund Space Collective and was mentally transported to another plane....

or it might be how annoyed the Saga LP made me as it sounded like Spinal Tap trying to play Rush....

I can't remember what I said
I lost my head.

negative opinions are a dime a dozen, you see probably someone really likes Saga and can't stand Gong

Haha.. wow!

"No need to discuss" ..well what could be discussed really?  The Saga album isnt even mentioned. You experienced something, which you really can't explain. I can't argue with that!

How does Saga really try to sound like Rush. Theyre both from Canada ! Okay, that's a start....Maybe they should have become a power trio. Or the answer might be - they don't sound like Rush! But they tried..

I would be curious as to the opinions of knowledgeable people about who Saga does sound like.  If you think they sound like Rush, please don't bother to reply.

well both band have a certain link to sci-fi themed covers, comcepts and themology, both bands have spreaded their concept over cerious of albums, the Radio Gnome, Teapot Pixie, mythology, and the Chapters concept, I have two of the Radio Gnome albums, and I have the Chapter Live double CD, both are very good music albums, Gong is avant garde, jazzy, chanting music and Saga is symponic structured oparetic rock, arena rock and futureistic,

so their is "some" similaritys

Better you should ask who sounds like Saga since they have been around for a long time. My answer would be quite a few neo prog bands sound similar to Saga.

they are also quite heavy guitar sounding so  guess some prog metal bands have Saga influence (Queensryche, Ayreon)

They were one band that helped keep it going......I agree. At a time when prog was lost and had no real direction.

I saw them once live in 1983/84 (can't 'member)......very good show! I think it was at the LSU arena....I like Saga.......and I think they sound like Saga, that band from Canada.

It is interesting that Saga is most popular in the land of Krautrock.

I can subscribe this! I remember a TV transmission of Saga's concert at the beginning of the 80's, I think it was in Rockpalast. And the concert was pretty awesome. One of the major TV stations transmitted it.
I never heard of Gong, though (before I discovered this site).
