Rush destroys ELP I would take Rush's worst album over Tarkus.

Though Rush destroys, obliterates, wipes the floor with, ELP, in this particular case we're talking about the latter's real masterpiece vs the former's okay epic. Tarkus wins.

I don't love it as much I do post-2112 Rush. I prefer other Rush albums and songs. And yes Ancient Pat is right. The "other" songs in 2112 kill the "other" songs in Tarkus. For me (for ME, please) ELP is almost a one-song band. One long epic song, but one.

Both are amazing, but the bass and horns on Tarkus blows 2112 away!

Can't a guy jokel yer yokel, hokel? Of course I knew which you were referring to. But to be honest, I do place both bands on the same level. When I get right down to it, there isn't a single album from either Rush or ELP that would be in my top 350 albums (and only one from each that would crack my top 1,000). I really just don't care a bit for either. Nothing wrong with them or in loving them, but I sure don't. The only reason I even go on incessantly about Rush is because more folks seem to be fans of them.

Tarkus for all its greatness, epicness, horness.......its just not that great, epic yes.....but not great. 2112 has a much better storyline than Tarkus and forget about Side 2 of this ELP release......complete rubbish! I think my needle has touched that side maybe twice in the past 20 yrs.
Because I play 2112 much more than Tarkus....Rush has my vote.

2112, because I prefer Rush to ELP anyday, although I am going to fulfil my longstanding promise to myself to go through my ELP collection again to see if I enjoy it anymore than I did when I last listened years ago.

To me, both are pretty average, but I like Rush more overall.

Doesn't 2112 just have a plot stolen from Ayn Rand? Don't they butcher the philosophical aspect of it?
"oh no, I live in a magic world where music is EVIL AND ILLEGAL but I found this thing - a guitar! But the priests, they banned it and broke it, so I'm gonna go to a cave, hallucinate and kill myself!"
Some pig...er storyline.

Inspired by Ayn Rand is probably more accurate. I have a hard time beliving Neil Peart would have butchered this in any way.But then i'm far from an expert on this concept or the novel that Rand wrote.

My user name isn't ELPFan4 and my vote goes where one would expect it to go. Ironically, I am listening to Tarkus as I type this and it is a very enjoyable album; even side B, but it isn't Rush.

What's all this about horns? There are no horns on Tarkus. Hammond, Moog, bass and drums all the way.... with sparse piano and that guitar solo.

As much as i like Rush, i can't go against Tarkus. 2 verry different songs and 2 very different bands. 2112 was a breakthrough in Rush's career but not the five best songs they have made. Tarkus is my favorite of all ELP's songs.
