I definitely felt a Wetton vibe in my initial impressions of Stolt's vocals. He generally sings in a higher register though. "Rhythm Of The Sea" is probably the best example of Roine going for the "Wetton" sound.

Are we talking about Hasse Froberg or Roine Stolt? (not that either one has struck me as being particularly similar to Wetton as they both have slight accents).

Yeah, it's just you. Also John Wetton actually is the singer for The Flower Kings.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I've never heard either singer sound remotely like Wetton, to be honest. But then I've heard Peter Hammill in Rob Halford before, so I guess if you put your mind to it, you can hear whatever you like..

There is a song on Unfold the Future where Roine Stolt is totally channeling John Wetton, but I forgot which song, maybe Grand Old World. But there is a moment where I'm like "It's John Wetton!"
But honestly, I know what the OP means, but I've always thought Roine had his own distinct sound and style.

I've noticed that too. And in the same way I can hear some elementsof Wetton's voice in TFK.

I can totally hear the similarities. Those NWBHM guys loved the P. Hawk.
Now I kind of wanna hear Peter Hammill sing "Living After Midnight".

That's because Halford's a second-rate Hammill clone.

The first thing I thought the first time I heard the Flower Kings (which was, not surprisingly, the song Rhythm of the Sea) was that the vocals sounded just like John Wetton. So yeah, Roine does sound a lot like him on the early album, though not on every song. Retropolis has the best examples. Over all though, he does have his own style and sound, vocal wise.

Let's work the question in a non-stupid manner then.
If Roine Stolt or Hasse resembles John Wetton vocally, WHAT ERA of Wetton's discography would that describe?

Which is funny since I love Halford and have for near 30 years, and I really dislike Hammill.

I can be even more specific than that.........it sound very much like his singing on the song Book Of Saturday from Larks. However, as I said, this not on every FK song, mostly just on Retropolis and Back In the World Of Adventures. After that, the similarity seems to lessen. Hasse sounds nothing like John Wetton to my ears, on any album I've heard him on.
