Who do you think was a better drummer for The Flower Kings? 

I'm gonna go with jamie, he was more rock based and zoltan was a bit jazzier.  Don't get me wrong though, zoltan is an insanse drummer, I just like jamie's sound...  I can't wait to hear their new drummer though...

The new drummer is EXCELLENT.  When I saw him, he'd only had a handful of TFK gigs under his belt, yet...  he played like he OWNED the songs, he was a real heavy hitter, while still having great subtleties...  a mix of Jamie and Zoltan, if you will.  Extremely nice guy, too, we had a good chat.

Being a FK fan and drummer I like Jaime but prefer Zoltan because of his jazzier,slightly more complex style.I haven't been fortunate enough to see FK live this year,but I heard Marcus Liliequist was pretty good and can't wait to hear him on the next FK album.

Have to say I prefer Salazar, though I like Scorsz very much too.

Maybe because I prefer earlier TFK albums...

Have you checked out Salazar work with Jonas Hellborg in the late 80's? The first so-called The Jonas Hellborg Group album (on Hellborg's  Swedish label Day Eight Music) is a recording of drums and 6 string/4 string electric basses - (but, if tempted to order, not to be confused with the excellent The Jonas Hellborg Group e album with the Johansson Brothers) - it has a great mix of rock and heavy jazz rock. I once had a hire car CD player set on repeat for 90 minutes for Dead from that album - a tight two and a half minute instrumental &  a real 'let's drive mad' track.

I rate Zoltan highly and have seen him live twice with both TFK and The Tangent.Don't really know the other guy.

Liliequist is indeed awesome. Between Csorsz and Salazar, however, I don't think I have a preference.

I became aware of the Flower Kings in 2000. I bought Retropolis after hearing a few samples on the net. I liked the drummer Salazar very much on instant. Very lively drumming, never sounding forced, like so many drummers when the signature or tempo is changing. Space Revolver came out soon afterwards and I liked him even better. Great drummer! Too bad I never saw him live.

By the time they released The Rainmaker (and I owned most of their back catalogue by then) the news that TFK had a new drummer really scared me. Man, what were they up to?

Zoltan! Still muttering, I purchased Unfold the Future, and man... This Zoltan character can play. He plays the drums in a way I have never heard before. Technically perfect and very dynamic. I like him even more (as a drummer) than Jaime. Also the work he did on Adam and Eve and the 2 Tangent records is quite remarkable.

Then 2005, and a new drummer again. I've heard Zoltan live in Tilburg last year for a 1200 or so audience (really much too loud), and had the opportunity to see Marcus in the Circus Brimstone tour last april in Rijssen for 100 people or so (quite an experience, the sound was excellent this time).

Marcus is a very good drummer, like Jaime, but IMHO not the prodigy Zoltan was. Still I think Roine Stolt has kept up high standards when it comes to TFK drummers and I am quite eager to hear him on record.

Ah, thanks for the tip, Progtologist. After the show in Rijssen I had a Karmakanic CD in my hands to buy, but went for The Swedish Family CD so Tomas Bodin could sign it for me (nice guy, btw). If I knew Zoltan was on the Karmakanics I would have bought it right then.

If any of you guys want to hear Marcus... Apparently, he is the drummer on the new Tomas Bodin CD (I Am). My local record store didn't have it yet.

Zoltan gan swing?

You see Welsh is a very ancient language, so there's no word for "swing" as a  music concept!

Hebrew is also a very ancient language, but in Israel they have scholars "creating" new words in  Hebrew, so that modern words like telephone have a Hebrew equivelant! (despite this Israelis still call it a telephone or more accurately "telefon")

Wow, great heavy stuff! Even Mike Portnoy should hear (and fear) this. The dynamics of the drumming, Zoltan's strongest point, is massacred in the production though. But that's also the case with Mike Portnoy's and all the Progmetal recordings I know (but that's a nice subject for another discussion). Also, bassplayers in the universe, check out this great stuff by Jonas!

The whole disc (Time Requiem: The Inner Circle Of Reality) can be a little boring at times, if you're not a keyboard player. It's great, though, and even more so if you know Jonas and Zoltan from the Flower Kings ... it's like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide!

Yes, I know. I lended it to a friend (violinist) who was really not into them (Genesis was his only cup of tea) and it totaly converted him into a raving flowerhead in one week. Almost scary.
