Both awesome albums, but Relayer demonstrates the creative high of Yes.

Gates of Delirium is among the best Yes ever did, but I don't really care for the rest of that album; To be Over is somewhat beautiful, but a bit too long for me (I like much better the shorter instrumental versions Howe has played), and Sound Chaser is just awful for me. On the other hand, Fragile is just about "almost" perfect. Even the solo spots, well, Howe's solo song is really nice, Squire's "Fish" is really very good, and for me it's just part of "Long distance runaround"; Anderson's part I actually like too, and sounds great as an introduction to "South Side of the Sky"; Wakeman's "Cans and Brahms" I don't really care about, but it's short enough and doesn't really bother me (I once read that "Catherine of Aragorn" was initially inteded to be his solo spot, and if that would have happened, then this album would have been just perfect); and Bruford's song is indeed pretty un-enjoyable for me, but it's barely half a minute, so, who cares. As for the full band songs, they are all perfectly great. So Fragile for me, the only album from Yes I may like better than this is CttE.

relayer is a better album in my opinion, but..i have an special sympathy for Fragile, i cant explain it

What are you talking about! Sound Chaser and To Be Over are amazing, IMO they are probably the two most under-appreciated Yes songs... in addition to Dreamtime (from Magnification)

My vote goes for Relayer, I remember the first time I heard Relayer on vinyl, those intricate musical parts, it was really a war of sounds, you can sence the thrill and the despair during the breathtaking gates of delirium, to land of the most calming and soaring notes from Soon, I've never experienced something like it before.
Fragile has it's moments too, but the visual experience of Gates it's so strong, so powerful, when you think they can't go any further, they do, hard to overcome that!

I had the same experience with Relayer----it is so mind blowing it is almost too much to take---

Fragile was (IMO) the furthest Yes travelled. Everything after that was downhill or at best, sideways.

Hm, hard choice, both are excellent albums, I think I've listened to Fragile slightly more than Relayer so I'll give it the vote.

Relayer. Fragile has some really great songs, but I find Relayer to be more consistent. And I can’t forgive Wakeman for what he did with Brahms.

Unfortunately Fragile didn't resonate with me nearly at all whereas Relayer is nearly on par with Close to the Edge for me. Relayer is my clean choice then

I think Fragile is more assessable but it's really an album where the dream team comes together and creates a new Yes sound ---with the solo bits from each member blended together for a unique sound which was perfected on CTTE---
