Morning were the band from Los Angeles http://www.myspace.com/Morningfromthe70s They were released two LPs - s/t debut in 1970 and Struck Like Silver, 1972.

Hm.... slightly artsy pop folk rock... not prog in my opinion.

These guys are straight out of Laurel Canyon, circa late sixties: Bakersfield country rock, a little West Coast folk, some bluesy gospel and a whole lot of time spent studying how Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson and the Byrds crafted addictive pop songs. They are very, very good and clearly knew their way around the studio, but they aren't progressive any more than CSN&Y, the Turtles or the Flying Burrito Brothers.
BTW, apparently Jay Lewis (aka James Donnellan) played guitar, sang and wrote several songs on these albums. He would later win a Grammy award as the studio engineer on Gary Wright's 'Dreamweaver' album.
I found a picture of the band in the studio working on their second album (see below).
Thanks for recommending them though - I've seen that second album before but never heard the band's music. These records are definitely worth picking up!
