Well done to the Op for putting in the graft but I doubt I could create a top 50 of any band -or a meaningful top 50 prog-  because by the time i was more than half way though i'd be in a different mood and the order contents would have to change.

Okay, I think that the objectors are right, a top 50 is a bit too much for me too.
It is tougher than I thought it would be.
Well, I'll add a top 10, and maybe enlarge it later to a top 20.

1. Heart's Desire / End Peace  (Single Factor)
2. Lunar Sea (Moonmadness)
3. The Sleeper (Breathless)
4. Song Within A Song (Moonmadness)
5. Pomp & Circumstance (Nude)
6. Freefall (Mirage)
7. Lady Fantasy (Mirage)
8. The Great Marsh (Snow Goose)
9. Long Goodbyes (Stationary Traveller)
10. Air Born (Moonmadness)

wilmon91 your list is good but a disagree in in some points . you didnt included in the top 50  'stationary traveller ''.and ''ice '' ,and nothing from ''A Nod and a Wink '' [which i guess you dont own that album, in that case you ''have ''to ]

This is slightly off topic, but because of this topic I googlesearched Camel. Just to check how many songs I actually knew. Naturally I ended up on wiki, and there I noticed Allmusic's weird preferance for late 70's/early 80's Camel.

Reading the reviews are even weirder. Mirage and Breatless sound  like they both deserve about *** 1/2, but apparently the the former is a lowpoint in their career and the latter a near masterpiece.

Here's how the review of I Can See Your House From Here's starts:

Although not an honest representation of the band's character, this is undoubtedly their most popular work...

Really? Snow Goose and Moonmadness are both certified silver, reached top 20 and stayed a while in the charts (so did Mirage) while their most "popular" work peaked at #45. It's also a mystery how their most popular work has the lowest rating and the lowest amount of ratings on both of the biggest fansites: PA and RYM.

And sorry for being a total geek here, but I do feel somehow its in the spirit of the opening post. I couldn't make a top fifty, but I do know my list would be the exact opposite of the folks over at Allmusic.

Here's how a best of comp. made by myself could look (in order of preferance):

01. Nimrodel / The Procession / The White Rider (9:18)                     Mirage (1974)
02. Lady Fantasy: Encounter  - Smiles for you - Lady Fantasy (12:45)     Mirage (1974)

03. Supertwister (3:25)                                                                                Mirage (1974)

04. Summer Lightning (6:10)                                                                        Breathless (1979)

05. Migration (2:02)                                                                                     The Snow Goose (1975)

06. Earthrise (6:41)                                                                                       Mirage (1974)

07. Freefall (5:54)                                                                                         Mirage (1974)

08. Aristillus (1:57)                                                                                      Moonmadness (1976)

08. Song Within A Song (7:16)                                                                     Moonmadness (1976)

09. Mystic Queen (5:40)                                                                              Camel (1973)

10. Dunkirk (5:25)                                                                                        The Snow Goose (1975)

11. Spirit Of The Water (2:07)                                                                      Moonmadness (1976)

12. Separation (3:57)                                                                                     Camel (1973)

13. Rhayader Goes to Town (5:20)                                                              The Snow Goose (1975)

About 78 minutes. As you can see, I'm not the biggest fan, but I like them for their gentle melancholy. Kind of rare in prog. I love Mirage (obviously), though.

Yes, I know.

I really like Allmusic, but their Camel entry is by far the weirdest one I found on their site. It is just the opinion of a few reviewers, whereas on ProgArchives there's a much better balance in the reviews. It really is a strange list from AllMusic, and I even thought once if I should send an e-mail to them because their preferences are enormously different from the opinion of most serious rock reviewers.

I've read a bunch of Allmusic reviews from the few folks they got, and gotta say there seems to be no rhyme or reason. Not that I agree or disagree, but Pain of Salvation's the Perfect Element gets three stars while the (supposedly cheaper imitation of Remedy Lane) gets the 4 and a half + AMG Pick.

I think, as music critique goes, I stick and bop around with Mark Prindle and George Starostin. :P

Yeah, it takes a lot of time to arrive at a list which you feel content with. It will have to be a work in progress. I started doing this several months ago. I also have this habit of putting comments on albums in documents, and labelling songs with different terms like "ok++" , "good" and so on. But I sorted everything that was good in four categories of goodness, and went over each list many times. It was fun.

Ice and Stationary Traveller is similar songs, there's too much "wallowing" in simple minor key harmonies for me.
I have heard "A Nod and A Wink" on streaming services. It's not a good album to me........ I like "Fox Hill" the most on that album. I guess it would have ended up at place 83 , beneath "Please come home" if the list would continue that far.

Metrognome and Unevensong are two other songs I guess most Camel fans would have included, but they ended up outside my top 50.

I'm 17 years old, and Camel is easily in my top 5 favorite prog bands. They are an ageless band if there ever was one.

That said, I don't have the time to write out my top 50, but my favorite albums are as follows(in order)

- Moonmadness
- The Snow Goose
- Nude
- Mirage
- Camel(self titled)

Cool list, looking at it 50 actually doesn't seem like that much.

My top 20 in chronological order:
Mystic Queen, Arubaluba, Freefall, Supertwister, Nimrodel, Earthrise, Lady Fantasy, Rhayader, Rhayader Goes to Town, Sanctuary, Fritha, The Snow Goose, Friendship, Migration, Flight of the Snow Goose, Fritha Alone, La Princesse Perdue, Song Within a Song, Air Born, Lunar Sea

All are from the albums Camel through Moonmadness, not that I think they sucked after that, I'm just a lot more familiar with these. The Snow Goose is by far my favorite, despite the fact that I put every song from Mirage on my list.
