Topic: Paul Simon Sound of Silence 9/11 Posted: September 11 2011 at 10:41 |
I don't know how many of you were watching some TV this morning, but I tell you Paul Simon sang The Sound of Silence and I was moved to tears. This is the power of music, that a song written 40 years ago (give or take) could have such resonance today. It's too bad Art wasn't there to join him, but that does not detract from what was an incredibly beautiful performance of that song.

Can you tell me where we're headin'? Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Great song. Not many songs would be suitable for this occasion. I saw a bit of the performance on one of the evening news programmes and wanted to hear more.Any link to it?

Yeah, I think he was having trouble holding it together. As you say, not many songs, especially from the '60s, would be appropriate for the occasion. It was a remarkable though I guess obvious choice on his part, delivered almost perfectly. There were a lot of songs written about 9/11, by everyone from Alan Jackson to Bruce Springsteen, but they've none of them got the better of this performance. If you watch in the video the emotions of the people who are present (and who are actually paying attention), you can tell it hit them at the core. I know it buckled my knees.

Paul Simon has lost voice, but performed the song in a very heartfelt, intense, and to feel the emotion,
