By the way, I think it's unfair to close a poll at 5:32 AM.

Damn that poll is impossible ! It's sooo hard to choose between two of my favourite band.... Today I'm going with Anekdoten.

Anglagard is one of the best ephemeral bands in Prog history, therefore they've my vote.

Now that I have all the albums by both bands, I can say that I agree with that guy's assessment. The emotion and energy of Anekdoten for me are preferable to the jarring angularity that is Anglagard. Though I love both, and hopefully I'll get to see both at the FarFest next year. |

Anekdoten, easily. Anglagard broke up too soon. Anekdoten has continued to grow and flourish.
edit: that's not to denigrate what Anglagard achieved on their two (fine) albums, but it just doesn't weigh up to enough to defeat the Doten.

Hatfield and the North only have two albums. Same with National Health. They're still amazing bands.

I agree with the knock against Anglagard having only 2 albums. I can't believe they beat Pain of Salvation and the brilliance of their whole catalogue. I think it was some sort of backlash against PoS, much like DT has been getting lately, though I more or less agree with that

I'll give Anekdoten an extra push towards victory. Their style has more appeal to me than what I heard from Anglagard.
But who knows who is going to win... they are so close together in this poll.

It's not exactly the same, but some time ago someone here made a World Cup including all the most important prog bands (pre and post 70's), which ended up being monopolized by 70's bands. If my memory doesn't betray me King Crimson won that one. So I don't plan on doing such thing for 70's bands. At least not for now.
However, I do have another idea for a future World Cup. Perhaps I will rest a little from making polls once this one ends, though.
BTW, this pre and post 70's bands discussion got me thinking...what ever happened to Walter (a.k.a. "Post 89' Music Sucks")?

He got banned, I believe. I can't say that I miss him. The humor of his posts went away pretty quickly.
|
Did he ever mention what the 1989 masterpiece was that made him pick that year?
Bravo Anekdoten btw.
And mr. Morningrise it has to be said. Your new avatar is the most depressing ugly thing I have ever seen. Another bravo for you as well.

Thanks. It's from the 1902 silent film Le Voyage Dans La Lune, by Georges Méliès

I feel this poll is a bit redundant seeing as Anglagard only have 2 albums.
I can't judge any other bands by selecting 2 of their albums. I might take Invisible Touch and Trespass from Genesis for example. I could not give an opinion based on only 80min of material. It's the same with Anglagard.
Anekdoten however have an extremely solid foundation of albums, so by listening to a representative sample, I can form an opinion of the band as a whole.
