Early days:

1949-1960 Father was a church and cinema organist and played piano in dance bands. David started learning violin at the age of nine. First violin bought from a junk shop for £1.00. Played right back for school football team.

Education:

1960-1967 Secondary school: A levels in Latin, Greek and Ancient History. Rugby player (Captain and Scrum-half). Started improvising.

1967-1970 Certificate of Education specialising in Music and Drama. Leader of College Orchestra. Formed folk rock band.

1993-1995 M.A. in Performing Arts (interdisciplinary performances, papers on structure in post-modern art music, the hermeneutics of rock journalism).

Career:

1970-1972 Musician, Composer. Concerts with folk and rock groups throughout UK, recording sessions etc.

1972-1974 Musician, Composer, Producer. Member of King Crimson rock group; tours of UK, Europe, USA & Canada. Recorded 5 albums for EG Records. Recorded Clearlight Orchestra album for Virgin Records. TV & radio broadcasts.

1975-1977 Musician, Composer, Producer, Musical Director, Actor. Formed ASCEND rock improvisation group; concerts UK and Nancy Jazz Festival. Theatre work at: Royal Court Theatre, Royal Court Upstairs, Bush Theatre, Wyndhams Theatre, Arts Meeting Place.

1977-1978 Musician, Composer, Producer, Musical Director, Actor. Freelance in Dublin, sessions, concerts, formed 12 piece band. Abbey Theatre Dublin. Players Theatre Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Project Arts Centre Dublin. Initiated Improvisation Workshops at Project Arts Centre - featured on RTE Television.

1978-1979 Musician, Composer, Producer, Musical Director, Actor. Director (Music Theatre) Tour of Holland with theatre & music. BBC, Music Box, ICA Theatre, Bristol Old Vic Theatre Company, Productions at Theatre Royal Bristol, Festival Theatre Buxton, Assembly Rooms Edinburgh. Arnolfini Arts Centre Bristol. Theatre Centre (TIE touring, inner city areas in London, Manchester, Liverpool).

1980-1989 Musician, Composer, Producer, Musical Director, Director (Music Theatre). Audio-visual and video presentations. Performing in jazz groups and with own rock band; concerts in UK, Le Mans Jazz Festival, broadcasts on RADIO 3 and in France.
Leicester Haymarket Theatre (12th Night). Recorded 2 albums for United Dairies Records. Recorded 2 albums for Dossier Records. Recorded 2 albums for Red Hot Records. Sessions on various recordings. Directed staging of Memos From Purgatory at the Half Moon Theatre and other venues using dancers, musicians, lights, slides etc.
Formed Beckett Music: Performances at Riverside Studios and other Arts Centres. Dance Company 7 ,(Afro-Carribean Dance) at Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room & other venues.

1990-1999 People Moving Dance Company at The Place, Chat's Palace etc. Concerts in Germany, Belgium, & UK. The Essential King Crimson - Frame By Frame boxset ,released by Virgin Records. 3rd album for Red Hot Records, David Cross - The Big Picture released Europe and Japan October 1992.
The Great Deceiver - King Crimson released by Virgin Records November 1992. 4th album for Red Hot Records, David Cross - Testing To Destruction released Europe and Japan October 1994. Featured on German television. Formed creative partnership with Dean Allen as the god brothers, co-writing, directing,and acting in That World (a play with music) performed at Interchange Studios October 1995. Featured on System Collusion (Geoff Serle - Severe Test) (1995). Devised Dance/Music piece, The Walking Self with Verity Blackman performed at Chisenhale Dance Space March 1996. Featured on Dean Carter album Psychomuzack (1997).
King Crimson - The Night Watch released worldwide (1998). Featured on album by Joe Hisaishi(Lost Paradise).
David Cross - Exiles album released in Europe, USA and Japan featuring performances by Robert Fripp, Peter Hammill, John Wetton and a collaboration with Peter Sinfield. Formed Noisy Records (1999). Discipline Records release The Beat Club Bremen (1972) as a mono collectors' CD (1999).

2000-2005 Radius album Civilizations released on Noisy Records (2000). Interdisciplinary performances created with Verity Blackman (dance) and Maurizio Pio Rocchi (painter). Senior Lecturer in Music Education at London Metropolitan University (2001). Collaboration with Mick Paul and Richard Palmer-James to write David Cross Band album Closer than skin (released 2005). Developed solo violin performances during 2004-2005. Concerts in London, Tokyo, Osaka and Athens. Recorded Unbounded with Japanese singer pianist Naomi Maki. Collaborations with Haruhiko Tsuda (featured on the forthcoming album Navigator), Korekyojin and Shuichi Chino in Japan and Chris Stassinopoulos in Greece.
