I don't have that particular Hackett album so I can't vote but I've never believed that ELP's debut album to be their best even though it carries the highest rating of all their albums. I only rated it a 3 although objectively its worth about 4 as all their other studio releases up to and inc BSS. Taste wise I prefer the heavier use of electronics on the other 3 albums especially BSS.

ELP music is rather cold for my ears although ELP is surely great band. On the other side, Hackett records are my favorites usually. So the output from this is obvious: Hackett for me, please.

Even though ELP are my favorite band, this time I'll have to choose Hackett's album.

Love both albums, but I much prefer Voyage of the Acolyte. Emerson, Lake and Palmer's best work is Brain Salad Surgery IMO. The debut while great doesn't show them at their most creative and consistent.

Though VOTA is a very special and unique album, i go for the ELP debut album, which is one of their very best, and has a real lot going for it

The ELP debut is terrific, but have to vote for Hackett, love this album.

Love both, but the ELP debut was groundbreaking, and captured the band in a way that many subsequent releases didn't. That said , their first four studio albums are all great, and really reflect the band working hard to create music that was both unique, powerful and accessible. Steve's first solo is a great work as well, but I think he went on to do better things as his career developed. ( Spectral Mornings as an example )

They are both outstanding albums. When I heard `Voyage' for the first time, it sounded like a `lost' Genesis album. However, the first time I listened to the ELP debut (which was soon after starting to get into prog so years ago), I had NEVER heard anything like it!! Totally blew me away, and I stil rate it their best album, certainly their most consistent. And no short goofball tracks either!

apart the first track which i think it s great,I never liked "Voyage of the Acolyte" badly sung, sometimes boring.....Hackett did better later.
