From what I've read I tthink "The Earth Below" is a release from a new band called The Winter Tree and not related to the Magus / Andrew Robinson vehicle of same name.

^ As you can see the band's name on PA is MAGUS (THE WINTER TREE) and 3 albums of The Winter Tree were added before "The Earth Below".

Please contact Neo-Prog team if you think it's wrong.

Thanks, Mayer. I've noticed this too and contacted Prog-Metal team. They agreed it shouldn't be here. Deleted by Andy Webb now.

I was in the V section and I checked out James Vincent. His biography says that he was a member of H.P. Lovecraft. James Vincent was never in H.P. Lovecraft. First off his birth name is James Vincent Donlinger. He was , as reported, a member of the Exceptions. They were located just outside of Chicago. The Exceptions played in Chicago a lot and were getting very popular. Their sound leaned towards soul music. They released severeal 45s on various small labels. They never had a big hit. When psychedelic music started coming in Jim Donlinger said the band should embrase this new form of music. Their bass player Pete Cetera didn't care for this new psychedelic music. He was inspired by the Buckinghams and the first Blood,Sweat and Tears album to form is own band with horns which he named Chicago Transit Authority (Later just Chicago). The Exceptions replaced him on bass with Bobby Jones. Their keyboard player Marty Grebb got an invitation to join the Buckinghams which he took because they had already made a name for themselves. He was replace with Jim Nyholt. The Exceptions' drummer Billy Herman stayed with the band. The Exceptions recorded one more single but changed the name to the Exception leaving out the s. They thought it sounded more psychedelic. Jim Donlinger decided that the band needed a new name to go along with their new sound so they became Aorta. They managed to get a record deal with Columbia Records. The Aorta album charted but didn't chart high enough for Columbia to request a second album. After touring for the album Aorta broke up when they weren't picked up for a second album. Jim Donlinger and his brother Tommy Donlinger joined Rotary Connection (who had Minnie Ripperton on vocals) for a tour. After the Rotary Connedtion tour Jim Donlinger wanted to get Aorta back together and try it again. Aorta's Bass player Bobby Jones was already in another band so Jim got an old friend from the Chicago area Michael Been on bass. (Years later Michael Been would find success with The Call). Also Aorta's drummer Billy Herman was on tour with another band so Jim got his brother Tommy to play drums. They went back to Columbia to see if they could come back to the label but Columbia wasn't interested. They managed to bet a record deal with a small label called Happy Tiger Records. Happy Tiger Records had just released an album by Them. This was after Van Morrison had left the band. The new Aorta album was called "Aorta 2". They toured for this album but Happy Tiger being a small label wasn't able to promote the album like it should have been so most people didn't even know there was a new Aorta album. Aorta broke up again. Jim Donlinger started working behind the scenes writing and producing the band Coven. With Coven's Santanic vibe Jim considers this to be a low point in his life. Soon Jim got a call from Michael Tegza. Michael had been the drummer for H.P. Lovecraft (he was also in Bangor Flying Circus). It seems that H.P. Lovecraft was trying to get back together. Reprise Records offered them a record deal. The H.P. Lovecraft reunion stared falling apart so in order not to lose the record deal Michael Tegza decided to put together his own band and see if Reprise would be interested in them. Besides Jim Donlinger they got Jim's old Exceptions keyboard player Marty Grebb. The Buckinghams had just broken up. Then they added Aorta 2nd bass player Michael Been. Reprise heard their demos and was interested but they still wanted to call the band H.P. Lovecraft. The band refused since they only had one member who was in H.P. Lovecraft. Reprise wasn't interesed then so they made a compromise and agreed to be called just Lovecraft. They did one album that didn't sell and they broke up. Micheal Tegza did form a new soul band and released an album as "Lovecraft 2". This band has nothing at all to do with H.P. Lovecraft or Lovecraft. Jim was hired by Dunhill records to record a single with other musicians called "Gloria 69" as the Shadows of Knight. The Shadows Of Knight were still touring and had no knowledge of this happening at all. Later Jim decided to go solo. He had been inspired by The Mahavishnu Orchestra and decided to move towards Jazz. Jim became a born again Christian and renounced his evil Rock & Roll past. The first thing he did was legally change his name dropping Donlinger and using his middle name Vincent as his last name. He started recording Jazz/Funk style albums. He's a minister these days and still plays music. He refuses to talk about his Rock & Roll days. He also published his biography.

^ Thanks, but please use paragraph breaks, the text is damn hard to read without them. I believe even papers which sinners in hell have to sign with their blood have paragraph breaks. Smile

Nevertherless I've tried to read it. Some points:

1. "His biography says that he was a member of H.P. Lovecraft. James Vincent was never in H.P. Lovecraft."
- But then you describe his collaboration with H.P. Lovecraft:
"It seems that H.P. Lovecraft. Reprise wasn't interesed then so they made a compromise and agreed to be called just Lovecraft."

James Vincent's website http://www.jamesvincent.net/index_nf.html (follow the link, then click "Retrospective") also reads:
"Along the way Vincent met rock promoter Bill Graham, who at the time was managing a band called H.P. Lovecraft.  The band needed a guitar player and Vincent needed a change, so he took the job and moved to San Francisco.

2. "his birth name is James Vincent Donlinger", "Later Jim decided to go solo. ... The first thing he did was legally change his name dropping Donlinger and using his middle name Vincent as his last name" and "He also published his biography".
- I think we can use these points to update the bio.

3. "Jim became a born again Christian and renounced his evil Rock & Roll past".
"He's a minister these days and still plays music."
- If we'd like to add these facts to the bio, I think confirming links are necessary.

4. "He refuses to talk about his Rock & Roll days."
- Even if he refuses to talk about it, rock'n'roll bands he was in are still listed on his site (for example, in mentioned "Retrospective" section).

Finally, using your info we can change James Vincent's bio (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7958) as follows, see red lines:

"James VINCENT (also known as Jim DONLINGER, because his birth name is James Vincent Donlinger) is just one of many excellent musicians from Chicago area. As a guitarist he changed through a lot of styles, and through his career was not just a solo artist but a studio musician, writer and composer.

One of his first more known bands in blues ridden Chicago were THE EXCEPTIONS in which he worked with Pete CETERA who would become lead singer of CHICAGO. After working as a studio musician for many Chess Records recording artists, VINCENT Jim DONLINGER became a guitarist for the proto-prog band H.P.LOVECRAFT. Then he met Howard WALES & Jerry GARCIA with whom he toured for a brief time. While touring and playing the blues/funk influenced fusion at the time, VINCENT Jim DONLINGER became inspired with their opening band and their guitarist, which was John MCLAUGHLIN and MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA.

Jim decided to go solo. The first thing he did was legally change his name dropping Donlinger and using his middle name Vincent as his last name.

Afterwards he began recording and released four albums up to 1980 before taking a longer break with his solo career. His earlier records can be reminiscent of for example SANTANA with whom he used to work with and his RnB roots show in a lot of his work but amongst those there is fine energetic instrumental jazz fusion. James still plays music and also published his biography."

Any other suggestions?

All Marco Antonio Araujo discography have to be corrected. Basically, the disposition of the tracks on PA are referent of the CD re-issues. On discogs we can see the original LP order of the tracks (I verify on google images, and the LP sleeves matches the discogs) along with the way they were put it on CD.

And take this chance to gave this guy a shot, it was his birthday these days. WinkThumbs Up

^^ I think we can leave these 2 entries as they are because one of them contains DVD-Audio disc with surround mix. Yes, it would be better to have one entry, but reviews by inactive members make it impossible.

By the way, discogs and other sources tell it's 2006 release. I changed it and replaced pictures with correct ones.

Yeah, I guess it's no big issue in this case.

One thing I noticed though, is that one of the reviews of the LP edition is actually about the CD edition, which gives the wrong picture of both editions, but since it's by the inactive one of the two reviewers (he's not logged on since February) there's nothing we can do about it, apart from sending him a PM, and hope he logs in again someday. Ouch LOL
