The third wave of prog is made up of many of the band s from the early to mid 90's all the way to now. But sadly, many of these bands are either on hiatus (The Flower Kings) or have lost leading members (Spock's Beard like 5 minutes ago and Dream Theater with MP). I would like to hear your thoughts on this and what may happen tot the future of progressive music.

^ What exactly is the second wave then?
Some bands quit, indeed, but others are coming back, like Anglagard or Echolyn. |

Second Wave: Marillion, IQ, Twelth Night, Pendragon, basicaaly the early neo-prog bands.

Some are inactive, but others are still active :
Arena Galahad Anekdoten Discipline Glass Hammer Galleon Some are making a comeback Anglagard Citizen Cain (i hope) In any decades there's some bands dying, others disappear, but there are more new bands, so i can't complain. |

No i see no signs of these bands slowing down.
Just because 2 bands are having troubles or are taking a break doesn't mean this musical generation is coming to an end.

White Willow just released the best album of their career this year, Anglagard have a new album coming, Aneldoten have had large gaps between albums since From Within, Dream Theater are still going as are plenty of others.

The bands that started in late 80s/early 90's are naturally getting old and stagnant (DT, Marillion, PoS - just a couple exapmples)
But there's plenty of fresh blood and the genre as a whole is showing no signs of slowing down. I guess it's the fourth wave now, but who cares? As long as the legacy carries on it's all good. |

Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Dream Theater, Marillion? Only one of those do I have more than one album and no DT. I honestly don't care. Look beyond, lots of good non-stale music going on. I guess when Steven Wilson quits Porcupine Tree or the Ozric Tentacles quit making albums that all sound way too similar it will all be over.

I don't think so. There is plenty of good prog out there. I really dig Opeth, Steve Wilson, and DT's new Albums. And that is just in the last few months. Not bad...

Strong rock music was as good as dead by 1983. Not interested in guitar 80s influenced crap of the 90s and 00s nor copy cats of 70s bands in the 90s and 00s

If you're interested in what the Flower Kings are up to you should check out the Agents of Mercy. It's basically Roine's full-time band at this point and it's as awesome as the Flower Kings ever were. Also Eggs & Dogs and the upcoming "Crime of the Century" project if you're on Team Bodin.
