I know what you mean Slartibartfast, Somewhere Else I find to be a real dud and HITR though better was still a bit dull
I'm hoping the next album will be more lively. Still you can't beat the band live. The Montreal Convention was amazing. They played for 3 hours each night and Hogarth's voice only got stronger as the night went on

peart_lee_lifeson I agree with assessment of Pain of Salvation! They change it up well, yet that seems to have turned off a lot of members here. I personally hate a band that always sounds the same(DT anyone
) !!

Opeth never wrote anything as interesting or complex as Crystal Mountain.

Change is more than welcome and by all means encouraged, as long as it's for the good. I didn't complain when they changed their usual style for BE, it's actually one of my favorite albums of theirs, but afterwards they decided to release garbage for some mysterious reason. It seems many PA members agree - not because we're against change but because we gotta call BS when we hear it. ![]() Edited by The Miracle - December 01 2011 at 00:54 |

Crystal Mountain? Like, the song by Death? Uh. That's like a 3 riff song in the form of ABCDABC, pretty much like every song on Symbolic. There's more interesting bands in death metal than Opeth, Death included, but Crystal Mountain is a terrible example since Opeth has absolutely written more complex music than that (interesting being a subjective term I won't address it).

I was totaly into Yes - up to about 6-8 years ago, now i can hardly bare to listen to it anymore.
Especialy the syntz sounds, on many tracks it sounds overdone.

Mars Volta was my favorite entity on planet earth in 2005-06 I obsessed about the music, concepts and images so much I drew out multiple tattoo ideas I needed to brand myself with (still haven't got a tattoo). But the degradation and spotty quality has jaded me. I have yet to listen to Bedlam In Goliath all the way. Amputechture and Octahedron were alright, but I could have made one great album out of the two.
I'm just bored of their sound. And by now I thought they'd be too. |

It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

Death by that point wasnt exactly a straight up Death Metal band though, and I find songs like Spirit Crusher more complex and interesting than Crystal Mountain. |

I've gone through phases of being enamoured, feeling ennui for, and rediscovering many, many different artists/albums/genres, inluding my favorites, as well as recognizing some new things to be merely part of a (then)current trend, but at the now current point in my life, I'm moving more towards deeper appreciation for the music than anything else.

For me music started out as a little spark that grew into something ever expanding. Some things were jettisoned along the way, and still the music universe kept growing. Now it is slowing down, somewhat, yet still moving onward and forward.

Vanilla Fudge for me. I liked the heavy, sludgy, operatic tone at the time. Now it seems kind of cheesy and listening to their stuff makes me want to put on some stuff by their better successors (e.g. Deep Purple, ELP).

This has never happened to me. Although, I've had kind of a reverse affect where I listen to something for the first time (pink floyd, for example) and hate it, then come back years later and love it.

When the candle burns dim you should melt it down with a blowtorch.
![]() Either that or pour off the accumulated wax is it's one of those block types. Sticks tend to take care of themselves. Edited by Slartibartfast - December 21 2011 at 06:09 |
