This band was first mentioned on here by andrea on 18th November in a topic originally started on 23rd September called 'A journey through the Italianprog scene'. He posted a youtube video of a track from their album and links to their myspace and facebook pages, but this information never got moved to 'Suggest New Bands And Artists' forum, and they are not as yet on progfreak with the other prog metal evaluations that are being, or have been, carried out.

Here is the original post:
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=62150&PID=4353071#4353071

and the two links for streaming all songs:

There is also bandcamp: http://syderaloverdrive.bandcamp.com/

All tracks from the debut album are now also on YouTube: visit http://www.youtube.com/user/SyderalOverdrive, from where this info is taken:

"Syderal Overdrive is a progressive rock/metal band from northern Italy. Sinking its roots in a project created in 2006 by Alessandro and Vincenzo, after several years of hard work and line up changes in 2009 the band officially took shape. As the typical Rock/Hard Rock atmospheres of the first songs were being abandoned, the guys began to explore deeper some progressive sonorities. By summer 2010, with the arrival of the lead singer Nicola, Syderal Overdrive reached a mix of a refined Progressive sound and some strong Metal/Rock arrangements. The first album of the band, a concept titled The Trick Of Life, has just been released."

Nicola Bassi: Vocals
Alessandro Cherici: Guitar
Matteo Pinna: Guitar
Vincenzo Di Francesco: Keys & Synths
Alessio Zoratto: Bass
Marco Colonna: Drums & Percussions
Francesca Antonutti: Backing & Additional Vocals

Influences stated as: Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Tool, Spock's Beard, Symphony X, Liquid Tension Experiment, Neal Morse, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Marillion, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, PFM, The Who, Deep Purple, Queen, many others...

And here is the music:

"The Veil Of Maya Is Ripped"

"The Great Trick Of Life"

"Endless Nightmare"

"The Green Fairy"

"The Tramp At The Gates Of Hyperion"

There are some quite decent lengthy pieces of what sounds very much like prog metal to me there, and there are possibly several more new Italian prog bands in that thread of andrea's who might well be worth a further look (or listen) in this forum.
