Topic: Favorite King Crimson Line Up Posted: December 15 2011 at 20:20
There is no second thought for me it's Bruford,Cross,Fripp,Wetton. While the studio stuff from this line up is great its really not untill you dig a little deeper to find this wealth of live material that era produced that their true power is brought to life. With most of the live sets at that time consisting of a good amount of improved material you can hear at this raw level these musicians completely clicking with each other where body language is as good as words. For me the tough question would be what line up would be second.

Lake, Giles, Mcdonald, Sinfield, Fripp
The band were at their melodic best. They had a good mix of jazz and classical in their rock music. Strong compositions. A good mix of keys too.
I find the Wetton era the most overrated prog band. Half of Starless and a third of Larks is experimental album filler. Don't like Wettons voice either. Apart from a couple of riff tracks and a couple of slow tracks there's not much else.

Maybe the Peace songs
They last about 1 minute each though. Devils triangle is scarily cool.
I played Larks in the car recently. I like it but the vocals never do it for me. The 2 larks songs combined last over 20 minutes consisting of about 5 minutes of music
