To the OP: Moon Safari either borrow a lot from or simply are very much in the vein of classic symphonic prog, therefore, "in the prog genre", there's that. For instance, I don't remember any other band to have taken so much (and blatantly) from Rick Wakeman.

Hi seabirch, I like Moon Safari, as do many members here. I only have their second album "Blomljud", but it is really good. I really enjoy the vocal harmonies.

If you're looking for similar bands, there's The Flower Kings, Transatlantic, Beardfish, Neal Morse, The Tangent, Karmakanic. But I think Moon Safari trumps them all in the vocals department.

A.C.T. are very similar to Moon Safari. I suggest you check them ous as soon as possible.

Beardfish should be a pretty safe bet methinks. Also a lot of the bands that darkshade suggests might please ya.

I guess I'm not the only one with this opinion and I quote from one of PA's reviews(Special Collaborator...):

After first album's listening, it was quite difficult for me just to describe this music. Pop- rock,based on West Coast tradition from late 60-s? But musical part is almost pure electronics. OK, there are very simplistic drums and some guitar sounds, in part acoustic.

Surf-pop for 21 century? Again, almost in every composition you can find some ,often very small, but existing symphonic pop-rock arrangements. OK, not the genre's tag is matter.

'Lover's End' was my 1st and after the heavy diappointment I gave them up

I would say that nearly 70% of the symph prog subgenre sounds like Moon Safari, but I'm no expert on those sounds.
