Topic: Alex Lifeson vs Roye Albrighton Posted: December 27 2011 at 15:27 |
two quite heavy playing guitar-players who bridges progressive rock and heavy metal in their playing who gave their respective bands a heavy edge (Rush and Nektar). Lifeson is more famous of the two but Roye Albrighton is not a slacker in the term of heavy riffing. i love his tone.

Alex Lifeson by a very wide margin. Lifeson can play any style well.

Aww, geeze Loise. Roye for me. By the way Rich Williams from Kansas would have made for a good three way poll.

I voted for Roye Albrighton because I always prefer Nektar over Rush. Besides, his guitar skills seem to me better than Lifeson's ones.
By the way, Mr. Aleksandar Živojinović' s stage name is LIFESON, not LIEFSON! I thought that's simple typo but it's written similarly in the first post, thus that's a mistake!

Last but not least, Roye is an excellent lead singer, Alex is mentioned as a backing vocalist on Rush debut only.

That's relevant - seeing as the question was 'who is the better guitar player?'

Voted both. They are both excellent and distinctive in their playing. I think Roye is often overlooked as a player, but he is terrific and deserves the praises.

I always think of Roye as one of the 'most underrated' . . . . It's his versatility that always astounds me, but his gift for timing, strumming, shifting from approach to approach and from one dynamic extreme to the other so effortlessly and with such finesse, with such beauty. Every time I listen to Roye--past or present, albums from the 70s or 00s, I am awed. And he sings, too!

I liked this poll better before Alex Liefson was taken out of it. (nudge nudge wink wink)

I go for Roye as I find myself listening to my Nektar albums more often than Rush. Just listened to Man In The Moon recently and forgotten how enjoyable and well performed it is (in a more Arena-Rock vein), not to mention the no-holds-barred Live-in-studio 'Sounds Like This....' - Roye is on fire, as are all of the band. Alex is a gifted guitarist, but I prefer the psychey edge of Roye.
