Topic: Discipline Poll! Posted: December 30 2011 at 06:36 |
Isn't it a foolish comparison? Not quite. Let's look at this albums' ratings on PA:
4.07 | 711 ratings | 127 reviews | 39% 5 stars
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection
4.28 | 129 ratings | 42 reviews | 56% 5 stars
Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music
4.34 | 119 ratings | 7 reviews | 40% 5 stars
Essential: a masterpiece of progressive rock music
And what about the placings in appropriate years of release?
1981: King Crimson: Discipline #7
1997: Discipline: Unfolded Like Staircase #2
2011: Discipline: To Shatter All Accord #3

I've got all three albums. This is a hard poll because the two Discipline album are pretty much alike and King Crimson's is not, but I like all three about the same. I'll cast a sympathy vote if one lags behind.

I have to go with Unfolded Like Staircase. The other two albums are really good but Unfolded Like Staircase is an absolute masterpiece.

I have to go with KC, although Discipline's newest album sounded nice compared to their previous albums.

Unfolded Like Staircase for me. Not a big fan of KC's Discipline; the first side is great but the second side is iffy for me.

A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

Shatter's going to suffer for not being out too long but my initial impression is that is as good as Unflolded.

Slart, I got both this year (though I got Unfolded much earlier and, coincidentally Shatter was released this year, lol) and I don't believe Shatter is nearly as good as Unfolded.

Unfolded may be at a disadvantage for me because it came out before the storm that flooded my house. Shatter has been around for little over a month but I still find them to be on par.

I have to hear the new Discipline album yet. Of the other two, Unfolded Like Staircase is almost 2 stars ahead.

King Crimson of course, it's all in the number of ratings, not the average which is always in favor of bands with fewer (just fans) ratings. That doesn't mean the Discipline albums aren't great. I especially like the new one.

Although I'm a very big Crimson fan, "Discipline" is for me only four-stars album. Besides, I rather prefer their 70's and current work over 80's one.
On the other hand, American band Discipline is a lucid exception from the rule that United States have quite weak Symhonic Prog bands. I'm currently enchanted by their music.
I rather prefer their newest album for its compactness and maturity. There are actually no weak track here. Unfortunately, "Unfolded Like Staircase" has really only one gem, opening "Canto IV". The others songs seems to me rather as unimpressive.
Thus I vote for "To Shatter All Accord".

Unfolded Like Staircase is a fantastic album, and Discipline were a very cool band. Still, I've got to go with King Crimson here.

I like the band, but the album (Discipline) is one of my all-time favorites. It gets my vote very easily.
