IQ - My Legs
Matching Mole - Nan's True Hole

I think Floyd's Seamus is very funny. LOL
I also think it adds a bit to music history because it's Steve Marriott's dog.

Hi,

Goodness ... we need more funnies around here! That list, so far, is pretty weak!

Supersister  -- tired of chipmuncks yet?

Amon Duul -- in their first album the recording engineer makes sure you trip ... off ... by thinking that the record needle is stuck on a groove ... and it is timed perfectly to get you off the couch from your tripping mode ...

Amon Duul 2 -- more than once. Phallus Dei, making fun of the tripping with wails. Wolf City ... you obviously never heard Hitler in falsetto! On top of it there are two versions of it! Vive La Trance ... Fly United! Hijack ... you really want to hear the feminist bit with Renate ... histerical, and then Archy later ... which I think was a take on The Firesign Theater.

Can -- Landed ... the whole album was off the wall lyrics and songs!

Jefferson Airplane -- Grace Slick has one little piece making fun of the Germans in one album. I think it was BARK.

Janis Joplin -- Ohh lord, gonna buy me a Mercedes Benz. My friends all drive Porsches and I must make amends ...

Sadistic Mika Band -- the whole first album ... Dean would love it, but we have to get him really drunk!

Hotlegs - Neanderthal Man (... well, they came close by mentioning 10CC ... but not close enough to those hot legs!)(they really need to re-release that album! It's a classic!)

Eno - Baby's on Fire, better throw her in the water ... and we haven't gotten around to Blank Frank yet! For those that think that he is humor-less!

Bonzo Dog Band -- is there a piece of theirs that doesn't fit?

Neil Innes - Anything he does. I hear that Randy Racquel is making the rounds at PA!

Roger Ruskin Spear -- We need to get "Unusual" re-released. Snow Dog doesn't believe me when I tell him that version of Pinball Wizard is the best EVER ... done! And Dean played drums on it, in a fit of ... we can't ask!

Robin Williamson -- When his voice turns left and south and he has had enough to drink, his singing goes to Saturn and back in one swill foop! It's crazy! And then you and I say ... is that singing? ... and the only thing we can say is ... you bet ... that, my friends, is as progressive as singing can get that no one will ever hear!

YMO -- their one EP, that has been relegated to non-existence about Japanese men and their ________________ 's was hilarious ... and when "Tighten Up" followed it, it was even funnier! Made "In the Realm of the Senses' look and sound like Betty Blue!

David Bowie -- in "Behind the Music" ... what's the secret of your longetivity? ... "a good doctor"! And you thought he wasn't funny?

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore -- LS Bumble Bee ... with all the other lunatics that also were in the movie! Not to mention the many other pieces that Dud played for everyone's amusement ... but we can't discuss "Derek and Clive" here ... specially "AD NAUSEUM", or you will be banned outright! Plenty of songs to discuss the merits of! Lyric meanings are optional!

Spike Milligan -- too many to list here. The Goons "Unchained Melodies" would be a good progressive title!

Spike Jones -- too many to list here

And one of my favorites ... that you folks do not take seriously and appreciate more in this whole list?

PDQ BACH ... and if you have never heard "Seasonings 1/2 Tsp Oratorio" ... you are not a music fan. You are an idiot! And will be punished by joined Neil Innes exclusive group!

My high school choir sang a PDQ Bach madrigal one year, called ,"My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth."  It was quite amusing; I got to sing a "solo" of improvised craziness and managed to sneak in melodic references to Peter Gabriel, Yes, and Dream Theater! LOL

Zoogz is the man!  I bought his best of album put out by SST in the mid 80's "Looser than Clams: A Historical Perspective".  I always think of him as the Frank Zappa of New Jersey LOL

Not familiar with this album but read an interview with guitarist Trey Azagthoth in a late 80's Guitar World issue.  He actually claimed to worship the "Old Ones", include passages from "The Necronomicon" in songs, and channel "Nyarlothetep" and "The Elder Ones" in Morbid Angel performances to raise "Cthulhu from R'lyeh".  As a bit of an HP Lovecraft fanatic I couldn't stop laughing LOL

Sort of funny..."Down at the end of your road" by Tull

Lyrics below:

I am your neighbor, I seem most respectableBut underneath I'm an iniquitous toadSo many dreadful mishaps have befallen youDown at the end of your roadAnd I live down the end of your road

I'm working on ways to remove you from paradiseFrom your striped lawn and your new swimming poolI place broken bottles in your geraniumsSabotage your gardening toolsAnd I live down the end of your road

By day I am a real estate gentlemanI deal in fine properties, cheap at the priceAfter dark, I plan my most devious practicesWhich you might think are not very nice

Designing a system to reverse your plumbingWelling up, as you sit on your private throneWill come up all kinds of vile and despicable nastiesYou would rather not have in your homeAnd I live down the end of your road

Dispensed loathsome creatures in your drawing roomSent doggy poo, poos in your morning mailRat's heads and lark's wings should set your tums turningAnd your houses will soon be for saleAnd I live down the end of your road

I live down the end of your road

How about Ray Stevens?? Okay, Gitarzan was funny for about one listen. But as far as old novelty hits go, Allan Sherman's Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah still cracks me up.

The Nice – Little Arabella & One of Those People
Beatles – You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)
Kit Watkins – My Telephone & Daisy
Jefferson Airplane – A Small Package of Value Will Come to You, Shortly
Godley & Creme – Snack Attack
Gryphon – The Devil and the Farmer’s Wife
Grobschnitt – The Excursion of Father Smith

Sometimes it's mainly the title that's a riot, as with some from Canterbury acts:

Egg - The Song of McGillicudie the Pusillanimous (or Don't Worry James, Your Socks Are Hanging in the Coal Cellar With Thomas)
Hatfield & the North - Going Up to People and Tinkling
Soft Machine - Dedicated to You But You Weren't Listening

Some good suggestions turning up in this thread.

The initial poster did not stipulate prog alone, but if that is what he meant, it doesn't take Knobby to tell you prog lyrics are  most decidedly  NOT on the humorous side. Prog lyrics are : war, madness, social concerns, misery, death (a lot of death) and more misery.

Because much of prog  likes to reference the literary,     concerning humour in prog, perhaps we should be focusing on NONSENSE lyric in prog. You know Edward Learish, made-up words    and that.

Keeping out INSTRUMENTAL tracks wot have long ridiculous titles (like that EGG one):

Yezda Urfa - Bases of Dubenglazny
England - parraffinalia
Gryphon - flash in the pan  - fontinental
Crimson - catfood (though some would disagree)
Giles,Giles & Fripp - elephant song
Dr Strangely Strange - Roy Rodgers
Wyatt - Alibib
Mikeal Ramel - round d'loo
Nektar - Nellie the ellie
Supersister- spiral staircase (already mentioned)
Roger McGough - teathings
Brigand - Derby ram -mussels in the corner
Mr Fox - aunt Lucy Broadwood
Stackridge - snark (only that its more sad than  nonsensical)
Bonzos - labiodentalfricative -rhinooath - my pink half of...
Tomorrow (okay, so what) - 3 jolly dwarves

Oi! Crimson King:

On the novelty music front, way better than Zoogz is RUDY SCHWARTZ PROJECT.

Are you familiar with this?
Most were  tape releases only, but this one can be found on cd.

I love Radio by Supersister:

Right from the start she disliked the music
In fact it frightened her
Just until the complete
And desperate feeling that
Overwhelmed her made her realise
That she wasn't like the schoolgirls
She'd seen in the magazines
That was a relief
A long hidden feeling inside burst out
And messing up the clothes and filling her
Pants with the substance of a custard supplier
She made a lovely muck
Of the whole commercial thing

La-lalala-lalalalalalala!
