One of my favorite musicians in the Prog world is Matthew Parmenter (singer of Discipine/solo work)....I'm kind of new into the prog scene and have read several references of how he is similar to Peter Hammill of VDGG....I don't know Peter's work at all, so you prog experts out there....what works of Peter (either solo or VDGG) would I like based on my liking of Matthew Parmenter's voice and instrumentation/musicality?  Thanks!

Hmm, this is a tough one.

They do share similarities but in my opinion Peter Hammill is superior to Parmenter in every way.  He's more versatile as well.

I've only heard Unfolded Like Staircase though.

As for VdGG/Hammill recommendations, I'm not sure where the best place to start would be.  I'd probably say VdGG's H to He Who Am the Only One and The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other

For Hammill so I'll go for Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night, The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage and in Camera

I'm sure others may well disagree with me though.  There's something of worth in all their albums though.

Who else do you like beside Parmenter/Discipline?

Well, based on what I've heard of Parmenter and Discipline, I'd say VdGG's Still Life is where you should start.  I think it has a very similar tone/feel to Unfolded Like Staircase, and probably influenced Parmenter a lot.  If you like that, try VdGG's Godbluff or Hammill's The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage solo album.

I think VDGG's Godbluff would be a good place to start.
