It takes place in Carmaux in the South West of France about 90 miutes from Toulouse.

I went last year but it's a tougher decision this year with it being only 2 days.

Yeah Caravan aren't very RIO but last year they had Arno close the festival and he's essentially a Belgian Lounge Singer, kinda weird.

I'll be waiting to see a few more of the acts to see if it justifies the flight from Cincinnati.

Yeah, I suppose it makes a bit more sense than Arno, as there's the tangential Canterbury/RIO connection as HC essentially emerged from that scene, but it's clearly a case of booking a "bankable" name over one which suits the overall vision of the festival. I seem to recall reading reports from last year of the place being packed out for Arno, with loads of people coming in for that concert who were utterly oblivious to the festival context. Hopefully we won't see a repeat of that.

Ultimately, I wouldn't exactly be complaining (if I could go, which I sincerely doubt, as I'm just as unemployed now as I was last year) as even in their twilight years I'm sure Caravan can put on a great show and their back catalogue is full of gems.

I wish they'd consider putting out a DVD of festival highlights for us paupers who can't make it to the real thing. That sort of thing might help them generate a bit more revenue for future events, instead of having to rely on bigger names which don't really fit in with the RIO/avant-prog aesthetic.

One Shot and Magma.

I'm tempted to say: "again the Magma/Zeuhl thing???"
Well, I will be waiting for the next news.

They sold separate tickets just for the Arno performance last year & the place was packed when Arno came on, it was kind of funny as lots of the RIO fans who'd been there for the whole festival were sitting around in the bar during his performance. I went in to listen three times but I just couldn't stand it so went back to the bar.

Hey, if that's what it takes to fund the festival I'm not complaining it's just  bit weird to end a festival celebrating RIO that way.

Well I'll be seeing Caravan in North Holland in late March, so I might just skip it this year, unless the yet-unnanounced groups are interesting

^^^^^^

Since Farfest is simply too expensive for me (mainly the TransAt plane tickets) and so close to RIOfest, I guess I'll see you in Carmaux in September

I'll happily split the cost of a bottle with you if you like seeing I can't bring any alcohol into the country as I'll be traveling light.

Great line-up. Caravan seems a bit of for a RIO festival, but hey, it's Carava! Also, would have loved to have One Shot at GAR. And the price looks really inviting too. Big smile
Bigger on the inside.
