Well...Hello.

I've been using this page as a reference for some time, so I guess it was about time I tried to inmerse myself in it.

I'm relatively new to music in general. Both my parents have been musicians at some point of their lives (My father still is), so, when I finally got 'really ' interested about a year ago, I had a bit of a head start. I got into prog mainly thanks to a friend who lent me "In the court of the Crimson King", and to a lesser extent thanks to Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree. I only knew that all that music was called "progressive rock" later - and, some time later, here I am today.

I'm 17 and I'm from Spain. I love more or less all genres of prog, but not equally (I admit a certain positive bias towards ecclectic, symphonic and avant-prog.) My favorite prog artists would be Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Porcupine Tree, Rush, maudlin of the Well, Pink Floyd, Zappa, Henry Cow, Phideaux, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Explosions in the sky, Echolyn, Univers Zero, Dr. Dopo Jam, Beardfish, Cardiacs, Ayreon, Green Carnation, Marillion...Ugh, I just find it too hard to choose. Maybe Pat Metheny too? And other fusion jazzers like the Mahavishnu.

As for non-prog, I guess I could choose some "half-proggers" like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Beatles, Radoihead and David Bowie, and add some bands like Mod Flanders Conspiracy, Soundgarden, Faith no More or Boston. I love jazz and classical, but I haven't really gotten into them yet Cry

And uh...I also love philosophy (Epistemology and philosophy of mind in particular), cinema (I guess my favorite movies could be Scorsesse's Taxi Driver, Aronofsky's Requiem for a dream and Buñuel's The exterminating angel(I have to get more into surrealism.)), literature (Cortazar? Garcia Marquez? Tolstoi? Camus?) and some instances (I'm obsessed with that word, and I don't even know if I'm using it rightEmbarrassed) of japanese animation (Usually mind-screwing like Evangelion, Paranoia Agent, Lain.)

And this ended up being too long. Well...Hello!
Smile
(I must admit that I find this emoticon to be kind of disturbing.)

Hey, you joined the site on Christmas too!  Welcome to PA!
I admire your taste, from the bands I saw listed, even though I still have to check half of them out.  We can always use more Rush fans!
Seeing Banco del Mutuo Succorso on there, I recommend that you check Premiata Forneria Marconi out, I just discovered them (and Italian prog in general) and they make some great stuff.

TheGazzardian: I shall henceforth consider you the most disturbing person on this site. ...Anyway, thanks!Tongue

SaltyJohn: Oh, even though I love it, I have't gotten into it as much as I would like Disapprove Mainly into Zappa, Cardiacs, Univers Zero and Henry Cow. Mirthkon, Buldozer, Mr. Bungle and Secret Chiefs 3 too.

Ambient Hurricanes: Thanks! I do know the Premiata Forneria Marconi, and I love them, just not as much as the Banco Wink If you haven't checked them out yet, I'd recommend you Le Orme.

Colorofmoney91: I don't know if you've posted anything, but, considering the title, I'll have to declare you the winner.

Alan (colorofmoney91) was posting a gif of the cartoon your topic name was referencing

As for whether or not I am disturbing - I hope not! I just tend to joke around. But I do legitimately use the emoticon every once in a while, and without the intention of being disturbing.

I don't know what's going on in this tread anymore LOL

Thanks, Horizons! Don't worry Gazzardian, I was joking myself Tongue And yes, yes it is extremely disturbing. It's a pity the gif didn't appear on my browser.

Welcome to PA! Hope you find some new music to your liking. And we always need younger folks to listen to prog, although I wish more lived in my area... Cry

Hey dude,

You speak Spanish?  I learned it a few years ago.  Very difficult language.
