I can't believe I overlooked these guys, especially since they are Nya Ljudbolaget related via cellist Ove Karlsson.
... and since I haven't seen them in the archives or suggested before, here it goes: I'm not sure about the sub-genre though. I've seen them tagged as Prog Folk on numerous occasions, but, athough the folk elements are present, and there are several tracks that can be clearly defined as PF (being even more prominent than in the case of Nya Ljudbolaget), overall the band pushes more in the jazzy/ avant area. So maybe ZART could have a look, although I'm sure most of the members are already familiar with the band. Edited by Lizzy - January 22 2012 at 17:50 |

Could you provide any more samples? I'm having a hard time picking a subgenre too and I want to listen to more of their stuff.

Goodness me. Have they really not been added yet? Definite oversight.

Fantastic really. Their samples above sound more folk-ish than avantgarde (but I can accept if they be rejected in Folk Team).
I'll check their debut album later. |

It is really difficult to sample this properly. One must actually listen to some albums, but even then it is difficult to put a tag on them. The second one is basically avant folk, whilst the first is more jazz oriented.

Their debut album I've checked ... and ...
Been quite immersed in their avantgarde-folksy rock tinged with definitely RIO flavour just like another Swedish RIO project SMM / ZMM. Fantastic kicks! Already Matt's and my thumbs-ups they've got! http://progfreak.com/Arbete-Och-Fritid-152106.html?path=pa/raz Edited by DamoXt7942 - January 25 2012 at 01:50 |

Thought I'd bump this one as it might die unnoticed and it needs only one vote to be cleared. Any ZART members around? :D

Hey Lizzy.
I have their first three albums, and let me start out by saying thank you for suggesting these guys, because I had completely forgotten about them If my memory serves me well, I think they would be a better fit within the confines of prog folk, but yeah doesn't really matter though. I heard their selftitled about a week ago, and they certainly belong on this site that's for damn sure. |

If Nya Ljudbolaget can fit in Prog Folk, these guys could too, but then again that's the situation with Ramlösa Kvällar as well.
I thought that I'd call out on the ZAR team since they got their hands on them first. :) |

Well the problem(haha problem?) with these Swedish acts is that they are eclectic more than anything, yet not really fitting for that genre here IMO. I've had that Nya Ljudbolaget for almost 10 years now, and each time I put it on I am certain that it is either a RIO album, a folk album or a middle eastern album mixed up with fusion. The same sort of parallels can be applied to Arbete och Fritid, which in all fairness is something that I happen to adore.
Let's just see what those ZART boys have to say Edited by Guldbamsen - March 07 2012 at 13:52 |

Definitely not eclectic (the PA sub-genre), but I do get the same feeling when listening to said Swedes. I guess Hollmer's solo work is in the same situation, at least from what I've heard thus far. And I love it too, so much I've been asking Swedes here if they didn't happen to have some of these LP's, particularly that rare Nya one. Let's just say no luck yet.

The self-titled Nya Ljudbolaget album from 1981 is on YouTube in its entirety - not quite the same as owning it, I know, but for anyone who wants to listen to it:
Note: The album has 12 tracks, and there are only nine tubes above, but the 5th and 7th of them consists of more than one track combined - it seems to be all there (and in order too).

Absolutely. I was just concerned they might have been forgotten with all the new suggestions pouring in. (I have forgotten about them myself for a while )

As long as the albums are there to be reviewed, then to hell with disco We can't all be dancing like John Travolta now - especially if we have a cold.
Hope you feel better soon.
