It's because it's not over 8 minutes long.

Starless just might be one of the finest creations to have emanated from the prevailing Zeitgeist that made 'Prog' possible in the first place. Fracture (ditto)

Ugh, too difficult a choice. Consider that some bands are too consistent to have 'peaks'. King Crimson are fantastic for a long period of time.

Just one vote for Islands??
In my opinion it's one of the Greatest peaks that few musicians manages to reach. It's my favourite KC's composition (with Starless) As Starless will win I will not hesitate - ISLANDS

Epitaph for me, really love that song, and Lake's vocals on it are among my favourite in prog. Starless is a very very close second, but I like it live much more... for me the main theme of the song was made to be played with violin, otherwise, it doesn't sound so good.

I went with Starless, but Fracture was a very close second. Really, these are all great tracks.

Such a difficult task.
Well here I go: 1) Starless 2) The Court of the Crimson King 3) Lark Tongues In Aspic (All Parts) 4) Lizard 5) The Sheltering Sky 6) Fracture 7) Epitaph |

From a structural standpoint, the greatest Crimso epic is "Court of the Crimson King". It bridges earlier works by such bands as the Moody Blues, Procol Harum and Beatles (without the psychedelic trappings) with later prog stalwarts such as Yes and ELP (and Greg Lake never reached the heights of that song with ELP). With its mellotron, orchestral movements, obscure lyrics, acoustic and electric guitars, bold percussion, grand flourishes and dreamy, mystical quality it is the prototype of all progressive epics.

I can't choose! We are talking apples and oranges and berries and vegetables and stuff. OK, fine: for a loud track, Fracture, and for a soft track, The Sheltering Sky.
