Ok, so I'm going to Vegas next week and I want to listen to a few Marillion CD's that I'm not too familiar with.  I'm already taking Marbles and Clutching at Straws)which will be the only Fish era cd represented).  I'm not taking Brave, I accept that it's a fan favorite, but as many times as I've tried, I just don't enjoy listening to it.  I also don't have the last couple so here are the choices.

I've allowed multiple votes, top two get loaded onto the iPod.  Poll results tabulated tomorrow (Sunday) evening.  Pick me some winners guys.

I cast my vote for Afraid of Sunlight, which is probably my favorite H-era album after Marbles.  I'd also recommend that Happiness albums, which you don't have listed.

Hey Scott,

They're on my list of albums to pick up at some point.  I've had it easy in that my Dad used to be a huge Marillion fan and had everything up to Somewhere Else.  He just kind of stopped buying CD's for a while so I never got a copy of the Happiness is the Road Albums nor did I get 'More is Less' . . . yet.

I notice that you have 3 times as many Marillion plays than I do, so who am I to recommend anything to you. LOL  Also, I bow down to you as The Flower Kings' King with all of those TFK plays.  You should definitely check out the Happiness albums.  Less is More is good if you like the acoustic/unplugged thing.  If not, then it isn't essential, although I do enjoy listening to it from time to time.  I still consider myself to be a relative n00bie to Marillion.  I've only been listening to them since I discovered them post-Transatlantic.

Eh, the play count is an overblown stat.  I literally listen to music all day every day, a lot of times it's background music rather than active listening.  Marillion in particular makes good background music at times.  Despite the high play count, the only album that I'm really familiar is 'Clutching at Straws'.

I am not familiar with post-Brave Marillion, but I think that, with Brave as a no-op, Holidays in Eden is a good option.

Season's End is great! Holidays In Eden is mediocre, but it's still got some good tracks.

Don't be afraid of the sunlight.  How did it now come to be that you were?

If I could take only 2 I would take Seasons End and Afraid of Sunlight, voted for both...If you want a third, This Strange Engine is also great.

Agreed. These plus Marbles are the essential H-era stuff for my ears.

Ok, so it's safe to say that Afraid of Sunlight is going to make the cut, we'll see how things go tomorrow but I may just drop something else and take both Season's End and This Strange Engine.  Thank you all for the recommendations.

A fight betwwen Season'e End and This strange engine.

TSE has the best opening and closing track of any Marillion album - with the possible exception of Marbles.

Namely -  Man of a thousand faces and the title track (lovely guitar work) - superb stuff.

I really don't understand this love for AOS that I think is a very poor album. Maybe I haven't understood the album itself...
