Thanks for making me aware of the newly released "The Death Defying Unicorn"; It somehow slipped under my radar (I'm getting old).

Since I consider them the second best act to ever come out of  my homeland, I went right out and bought it today. IMO Motorpsycho has reached that stage where you know in advance what you're gonna get, generally speaking. But also as usual, the specifics can be surprising
(*).  And the new one is no exception -- this time they've included a jazz orchestra, and made a 2cd concept album -- an odyssey of sorts. After a couple of listen-throughs I enjoy it the most when they... um... "go with throttle up", to use a (quite fitting) space travel analogy. The last two tracks alone are almost worth the price of admission.

(* On the second to last track they even quote musically the intro to "Changes" from Yes' 90125 album.)

As for a top 10: Without going into specifics, i.e. ranking them, my list would pretty much be their last 10 studio albums.

I am from Norway by the wa, but i wish i was from Avalon

also i like Lucid Moments better then Heavy Fruits, more fresh and energetic, it is a spessial album to me, 4 grat tracks, and the first song is probably their best songs, besides, som tracks on Phanorythime,

the new one is up there with In Court of the Crimson King, IMO, i top Eclectic prog albumif as if  their ever was one, RateYourMuisc even lable it partly Zeuhl and Avant

Too early for a final verdict on just how great the new release is, so leaving it out of consideration for now, I think Heavy Metal Fruit is the winner for me. From the majestic opener "Starhammer" to the multi-part closer "Gullible's Travails", - there are no weak tracks. And they really perfected their characteristic hypnotic-groove space-outs. Great prog, fresh and retro at the same time.

Of the ones that I've listened to my current top five would probably be (in no particular order):

Trust Us
Phanerothyme
Heavy Metal Fruit
Timothy's Monster
The Death Defying Unicorn

I didn't like Phanerothyme.
Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.

Mountain EP is my motorpsycho favorite.
It's has a drive of its own and it was the first album that made me like them.
Motorpsycho live performances is awsome.
"Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green Green Grass of Home'."
"That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome."
"Is it common?"
"It's not unusual."

I started with heavy metal fruit album and loved them, then got phanerothyme which is different but equaly good.
Heavy metal fruit is much heavier, a lot of distortion, if you like this check out W.B.A.T track.
Phanerothyme is more eclectic with more instruments added, if you like that direction check out GO TO CALIFORNIA track. Although in this album every track is different so one track does not represent the music, it's just a taste.
Have fun!!
