Does anyone know of any bands that are influenced/inspired my maudlin of the Well? I was just listening to Part the Second and realizing how creative and innovative the directions they were taking in their music were, so I wondered if there were many bands that took a substantial influence from them.
Any Toby Driver influenced bands, actually, would be welcome, or even some groups that just happen to have a similar vibe.

I posted a song by a sludge metal band called Subrosa and a friend told me it sounded like motW, so you should check out Subrosa.
I've never been a motW fan so I have no idea, really. Edited by colorofmoney91 - February 14 2012 at 19:59 |

Not so sure about whom motW may or may not have influenced, but when I heard Part the Second, I was reminded of this album from the late 90s by 5uu's:

I only know one band that is actually similar to MotW to a certain degree: Subterranean Masquerade. Check out their "Suspended Animations Dream" album.

I assume you were talking 'bout me? Yep, Subrosa sounds a lot like the heavy parts of Bath/LYBM. The vocals resemble the female singer on those motW albums too. Now, I don't think I know of anything similar to Part the Second, sorry.

I love that Sub Rosa album, but I have to disagree, it sounds nothing like maudlin of the Well. Try Tusk's The Resistant Dreamer, Toby even guests on vocals on one song. Then there's Time of Orchids. A bit of a stretch but Akphayzea might be worth a try and Secret Chiefs 3. |

Not really motW influenced but Time of Orchids gets compared to Kayo Dot sometimes. Kayo Dot took both of their drummers from the band. There's similar stuff going on with the vocal harmonies. I would try them out.
There's Greg Massi's new band Baliset. I'm not a huge fan, and the sound really isn't so similar. However, you'll probably still be interested to some degree. One band that's not too similar, but does a lot with combining trumpets with very different metal riffs is Sculptured on their second album Apollo Ends. You might try that out. |
