Topic: Ruins Trio Posted: February 16 2012 at 16:22 |
Which of the above configurations of Ruins do you like the best?
Yoshi + Bassist
Yoshi + Sax
Yoshi + Yoshi
(And yes, I know there are technically others as well (such as Ron Ruins and Derek Bailey & The Ruins) but I felt these three stand seperately from those, which I view more as true "groups" rather than collaborations. Even if I'm wrong I don't care Of course, feel free to spread the love to any Ruins lineup/collaboration you like.)
Vote away!

Not Ruins but that side project Koeinjeihayiakiaia (my spelling is intentionally way way off as I have no idea how to spell it.) Way prefer them.

The new Ruins Alone is actually amazing, I cannot vote since I don't actually know all the albums in its different line-ups.

I've heard enough from all the versions to know I definitely prefer Ruins. Something about the drums and bass bass BASS approach which just gets me in all the right ways. None of that phony Symphonica stuff, either. Another fun one to check out is Ruins + Kazuhisa Uchihashi. Only put out the one album that I know of, it's pretty awesome. The group Knead is just Ruins + Kaino Heiji, haven't heard much of their stuff yet though...same with Ruinzhatova.

I'm going to see Ruins Alone in May , but I haven't actually heard the album yet. Symphonica is best Ruins album I've heard not phony like some have you believe. I would probably go with Sax Ruins as a whole though.

Ahh, but it dilutes the purity of Ruins! I don't dislike it, but if I'm given a choice between Symphonica and, for example, Hyderomastgroningem, I'll be going with the latter nearly every instance.

Purity smurity it's awesome.
I kind of know what you're saying. I think Sax Ruins would be pretty much the best thing every if there were no overdubs.

Symphonica if you like choirs, non-sense vocals, and keyboards. If you want the more traditional Ruins sound with just the drum/bass I would say Tzomborgha.

Tzomborgha is definitely my favorite. I prefer the sound of the instrument - I seem to remember Hisashi Sasaki was playing a Bass VI on this one - also, I don't like when he uses too much digital effects on some of the other albums. In fact, this may be one of the albums that really turned me on to the Bass VI.
A lot of Ruins stuff is appearing on Bandcamp - here's Tzomborgha:
I also love the medleys!
