I don't really know what genre, but it's DEFINITELY ELP/Gentle Giant inspired all to hell.

This band is from Dayton and they are signed to Squids Eye Records.

I'm enjoying them.

Hmm... I don't know, if you listen to more of their stuff I felt like some of it sounded pretty symphonic.

These guys are definitely worth a serious listen - they've been around since 2005, but YouTube only has live recordings of them as far as I can see. I recommend that you try bandcamp: http://yakuzaheartattack.bandcamp.com/album/yakuza-heart-attack is their debut album from 2007 (their second album, called 'Yakuza Heart Attack II' (Jan 2011) is on there too.

There's also myspace: www.myspace.com/yakuzaheartattack (8 samples), and facebook: www.facebook.com/yakuzaheartattack.

Here's a bit of info:
Yakuza Heart Attack are from Dayton, Ohio, and have been playing in various Dayton bands for years (Jet Kid Committee, Five Deadly Venoms, Astro Fang). They came together as an outlet for more progressive, compositionally based tunes in early 2005. Each member of the Heart Attack has an intense love for a variety of artists, which conveniently merge into melodic, keyboard driven art rock.

Influences are stated as:
70's Prog such as: King Crimson, Yes, ELP, Gentle Giant.
Composers such as Koji Kondo, Raymond Scott.
Also Deerhoof, "The Grey Gentleman", Number Girl, Zazen Boys, Kraftwerk, The Boredoms, Velvet Underground, King Crimson, Deerhoof, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Pink Floyd.

Band members:
Brian Baker - Guitar
Justin Baker - bass guitar
Matt Emmons - synth/keys
Chris Mengerink - Drums
Keith Rankin - synth/keys

They class themselves as Indie/Electronic/Progressive.

Often described as an '8-bit' band, their music is usually referred to by music media as "keyboard-driven art rock." Yakuza Heart Attack II sounds like what you’d hear if Mario ate some real magic mushrooms. Or maybe you ate the mushrooms, played Super Mario and then found yourself actually in the Magic Kingdom. This stuff is goofy and crazy, but still more than interesting enough musically to keep you listening.

Extensive interview with keyboardist Keith Rankin following the release of 'Yakuza Heart Attack II' here: http://isaacparis.wordpress.com/2010/03/19/yakuza-heart-attack/

An interesting band indeed... Smile

I can hear the GG influence, but not so much ELP. At least from the original video post.

Very whimsical sounding.
Crushed like a rose in the riverflow.

Yea- Dayton Ohio actually has a lot of underground prog. All the friends of the guys from Mouth of the Architect- Dayton is an economically messed up place right now and the music coming out is representative of that. Pretty hectic awesome prog.

Makes me sad to live in Columbus with our clusterfook of bad indie rock and boring metal/punk.

I've heard the first album and it's definitely good for PA, I need to listen to the second too in order to have an opinion on the best genre assignment.

EDIT

Listening to the recent album now, it sounds like a video game music based parody of prog. Ouch
