ANGRA without a doubt! Even their "worst" album, Rebirth, is awesome.

Adding to my previous post, I think King Crimson have also been very consistent.

Some hae mentioned Ozric Tentacles and he Decemberists... I would agree with that too.

^ Six out of their eight albums I rate five stars (TKOL and Pablo Honey being four). They are the first band that comes to my mind when I think of consistency. Pink Floyd is really the only one that comes close but sadly The Endless River only got two stars for me. Unhappy

This! Although the more recent stuff I'd call merely 'alright'.

For consistency, I'd give almost every Rhapsody (of Fire) album 4 stars.

For bands that are still making music:
Rush
Porcupine Tree
The Mars Volta
Mogwai
Kayo Dot (and yes, Toby Driver in general)
Anglagard (hopefully the new album is phenomenal!)
Transatlantic

My nomination, only one springs to mind for me, is Riverside.

Whichever record of theirs I listen to, I am never disappointed. Every other band for me has a track or album that comes on and I think 'meh, next.' I could happily listen to the entire Riverside discography without skipping a single track.

Who would yours be?

You took the words right off my keyboard.

It struck me just the other day that after 40 years of collecting and listening, Riverside is the only outfit I have heard or own that does not have one single track, in their entire discography,  that I am indifferent to or would skip over.  Not one.  And I'm including Duda's Lunatic Soul trilogy in that as well.

That is *quite* a feat, IMHO.

I think the more albums an artist does the less likely there will be consistency and I don't have a problem with that.  I think Ozric Tentacles is fairly consistent but they've done a lot of albums and I don't need every one.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I would say Rush. I don't think they've done anything under a three star album, and I would dispute the idea that they have produced loads of 'filler'

I guess it depends on how you define 'filler' For me filler is something that is used instead of actual composed music, to either pad an album out, or to create an atmosphere, and then sustain the atmosphere, for longer than is necessary. To be honest I can't think of one example when Rush have ever done this.
