NOT to be depressing or morbid, but in a peaceful, tranquil  way of thinking,(I had three close family members
pass away in 18 months), just got me thinking, if you knew you had twenty minutes to live, what bands, song, or
album would you want to enjoy in  your final moments?

Close to the Edge?

I'm not sure. It would depend on what mood I'm in at the time

I'm sorry to hear about your losses.

No idea, the death aspect makes the "favorite songs" more personal. May post later.

No kidding, having that on for 20 minutes would make me feel a lot better about going.

I recently lost an uncle who left quietly and peacefully, thankfully, so I understand the nature of your thoughts, Paiste.  At that final point, what I really would like to hear is the sound of rain falling on still waters and birds singing.  My mourners, however, will have to listen to lots of Vangelis as they send me off into the great yonder.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

I feel your loss as well, I lost 2 family members to cancer in the last few years.

I was trying to keep my first post in this thread light, as these types of threads go get real dark and depressing,

Does anyone else have the problem where they sometimes momentarily read Vangelis as "vaginas"?

I would have no problem listening to vaginas for 20 minutes before dying.

Give me "Turn of the Century" by Yes, "Never the Same" by Echolyn, and then something I wrote just to remind myself I was here.

I feel like maybe OP has poisoned himself with about 20 minutes to live and is asking us for a suitable soundtrack.

Well, I've always thought Funny Ways is a song to listen to while being abducted but I guess it's a great one to die to as well. Tongue

I've found that for me, personally, Tommy is an album that tends to ward off sickness and ill fortune(don't even ask me to explain), so I would pick that in hopes that it could somehow shift the balance of the scales of creation in my favor.

The album would be perfect, but for the time limit? Wayfarer or Manifold Curiosity.

Anything by Godspeed You! Black Emperor would do the thing. I always thought that their music was "the soundtrack to apocalypse". My favourite, I think at the moment is Sleep.

It's not prog but I'd recommend Blinking Lights and Other Revelations by the Eels (I mentioned in another thread that it's one of my fav albums of the decade, so...).  The main guy of the Eels lost most of his family in a short time and it's reflected in a lot of his writing.  The Eels' Electro-shock Blues is also about those deaths, but it's a fair bit darker (though ultimately still affirming and optimistic), whereas Blinking Lights might be a bit more soothing.  In 20 minutes I'd recommend listening to the last 8 songs of the album, as those are the best imo and come out to just about that.

Last song:

Play me my song...

I was thinking of GY!BE or Sigur Ros, although in reality if I knew I had 20 minutes to live I'd just cry a lot.
