I was having a discussion with a friend who's working on a progressive rock based online show about albums that are perfect except for that one song that you can't listen to, and I was wondering what your opinions were as to which songs these are.
A perfect example I would say is "Moonchild" from Court of the Crimson King. The other 4 songs on that album are damn near flawless, but "Moonchild" bores me to absolutely no end. My friend and I were curious as to what other examples you guys may have to offer.

Moonchild is probably my favourite early KC song.

I really like Moonchild... On topic though, Steve Hacket seems to put a blemish on near every album of his.

Cans and Brahams from Fragile anyone? I don't object the concept of including a classical solo piece (I am completely fine with Mood For a Day) but Wakeman is capable of higher quality... I don't know what was he thinking....

I sorta like those little pieces in Fragile. Although I think the only purpose of We Have Heaven is to make Heart of the Sunrise cooler.

I actually love Cans And Brahms. It was great that they added that in for Rick's solo piece. On that album I would say We Have Heaven and Long Distance Runaround spoil the album a bit. |

"El Ciervo Vulnerado" by the Mars Volta definitely fits this category.
While we're on King Crimson, I'd also say "The Mincer" fits also. Side 1 of SABB should have closed with the gorgeous "Trio" instead of piling on a directionless jam. Also, I'm going to be a tad controversial and say "Ladies of the Road" drags down the album "Islands." It's too catchy, too sexist, too rock, and it doesn't fit the feel of the album at all. |

Roger Taylor's songs were usually the weak points in many Queen albums. Let's not talk about ELP...

Are You Ready Eddy .. yeah take maybe the most influential album of Prog's peak years and just throw a little horse crap on it at the end there, just to round things out

Funny isn't it, they always threw in a little sh*t, as if to say we're not really great musicians making the most complex rock music on the planet, we're just like the rest. I never understood that.

I'd say that song, if I didn't think the whole album was average-bad other than Dancing With the Moonlit Knight and The Cinema Show.
