I'm wonder how much nice and very promising new bands are coming from Portland, Oregon. This is The Addiction Dream, Portland's prog trio who released their beautiful debut album Essence in 2012: http://theaddictiondream.bandcamp.com/

Just one youtube sample is available, but you can to hear all tracks from Essence at their Bandcamp page. Enjoy!

From their facebook pages: http://www.facebook.com/The.Addiction.Dream: The Addiction Dream is a synth-based rock trio emerging out of Portland, Oregon. While their musical influences span a broad spectrum, The Addiction Dream has a very identifiable sound, dominated by layers of haunted vocals driven by a barebones heavy-groove approach. Skillful orchestrations and eclectic melodies create a timeless soundscape. Essence, the band’s self-released debut album is starkly euphoric, taking the listener on a powerfully dynamic and dramatic journey. Woven into their authentic sonic fusion, you will find elements of Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and subtle traces of modern classical music. While incorporating these influences, The Addiction Dream is branding Portland with it’s very own signature sound.

Bandcamp has them tagged as melodic, psychedelic, synth rock which probably equates to 'Crossover' after it's all been shaken and stirred. I  certainly think they are different enough to be granted an evaluation. Smile

I partially agree with Yam Yam, Crossover could be a posibility, but I listen more Indie/Alternative than Prog.

Great musicians and some great musical moments, sadly I don't believe they are Prog Archives material.

I received a very courteus PM from Svetionio and replied this:

Quote Heard all the album and it's good but IMO, hardly Prog (Well, I'm a purist).:

  1. Pius Greedy Few: More Indie/Alternative than Prog
  2. Flying: Excellent song, also Indie but this time with a hint of Pink Floyd
  3. Dark Skies: Fantastic vocal work, but it's clearly Radiohead inspired
  4. Insatiable: Sorry, I don't see Prog in here, nice but not Prog
  5. The Conservative:, This even sounds as Thom Yorke, great work, but again Alternative, nice piano though
  6. Magic: Great synth work, still no change in my opinion, reminds me a bit of Android Paranoid
  7. Essence: Great material, very obscure with traces of Avant Garde
  8. Promise: Please, don't get angry, but this sounds as Synthpop to me, good material though, the vocal work is even better
  9. Survivor: Reminds me of Coldplay
I would recommend you to give a try in Crossover.

But IMHO it's a Hail Mary, because I don't see Prog in here, except traces of Pink Floyd and an obscure almost Avant track.

Iván

I agree with a lot of your points Ivan, but I also agree with David that this might stand a chance in Crossover. I'll give it to them.

Yes Andy, that's why I recommended to try in Crossover.

But IMO, it's more Indie/Alternative than Prog.

No offense intended Iván, but you tend to do hold this opinion to some of (or a lot of perhaps) Crossover additions in last 1-2 years, yet they get confidence of 3 people out of 5 needed to get them CLEARED status.

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

No Offence taken Marty.

I'm only expressing my opinion, I don't believe it's Prog, but I don't have any decision capacity  in other teams.

If Crossover or other team decides to accept them, it's your call and I will respect it, but I will give my opinion when asked as in this case until and if  the band is accepted, then I will shut up as i done almost always.

If you ask me (And I been asked), this band is not remotely Prog, but it's only an opinion

Iván

Svetonio,

We had a bunch of folks come and listen to our music because of you!

I am not exactly sure what genre our music gravitates toward but It is wonderful
to have people listening to it!

Thanks so much for posting of our music!

Sincerely,

The Addiction Dream
