I've picked 69 (a pretty number, isn't it?) most famous lead guitarists, appearing on this site as Prog, Proto-Prog or Prog Related artists. They're alphabetically ordered; but I've used only 10 initial letters. Two highest rated guitarists of every poll will advance to the Semi-final.

I'm also preparing a separate round with remaining initial letters of guitarists plus your mostly suggested ones, to make a really fair contest.

Deadline for this round: 8th March

Notice: Joe Satriani isn't listed here nor as Prog or Prog Related. Thus he's not included to the poll.

Does David Sylvian play the guitar?

I must have missed that in the 30 years I have been listening to him.

Silly me. Yes.

This is easy:  Scofield all the way.  Of course, I'm guessing most members have never heard of him and will vote for Santana.

Roine has become one of my favorite guitarists of late, so he definitely gets my vote.

bla bla jazz guitarist bla bla.

See? We're not a bunch of buffoons after all! OK I am at least...

Tim Smith for best guitarist-

1. Because he' beautiful.

2. While not necessarily the best in a technical sense, his parts are usually very complex.

3. Because I can't think of anyone else that starts with S at the moment.

I've been collecting a fair amount of Santana lately, and voted for him.  Stolt is also excellent of course.  Scofield is technically better than either, but I like his music the least of these three.  Special mention to an other: Neil Schon of Journey (forget the popular stuff, listen to their first three albums).
